So I edited my first track and lowered the volumes to avoid clipping but it became too quiet. If I set them higher, then they will be in the red zone. The song will be louder but also clipping. What should I do?
Here's the track without clipping (too quiet): https://leopard.hosting.pecon.us/dl/cvloq
Should I really keep the mixer and the master volumes at the green zone to avoid clipping?
Sidechain your chords and your leads to the snare, and sidechain all bassy sounds to the kick
After that, treat your frequency spectrum like an energy meter.
It can only have so much signal before it is full, so try to play with the mixer was, pulling bass out of chords and leads, pulling highs and potentially mids out of your basses
This is where the mastering app and compressors come in... Basically keep your track in the green, then export as a 24bit wav and load it into the mastering app, there you can use the compressor and limitor to push those quiets up without clipping. It's important that you have plenty of headroom before mastering.
