!!!! Pay the DEV !!!!!!

Hello Rej,

hello everybody,

after traveling through all DAWS, Grooveboxes eg. in Android / IOS I´m concerned. I payed around a 200 $ but no prog has the workflow, that Caustic offers. Now the point has come, where i want to pay the DEV for some missing sync / midi out functions directly. We all know of the issues with Play Store - APP Store and new versions or in-app items. It´s unfortunately no big deal for a DEV when you update your APP´s

How much developer time do you need, for implementing lets say a 10 basic new functions ? Not some nuclear ones like "the left angle of the transport button has to be square with a degree of 91,87965° ". Let´s summit all wanted functions , vote for 10 of them and you tell us, how much time is needed for this.

Mine favourite functions are Caustic Sequencer Sync in any kind you want to Cubasis and other DAWS / Midi Out Plug in / Finish the cc Mappings for the Rest of the mixerchannels 8-14

I´m willing to pay you a 100,- 150 $ for a new version. Let´s say, you need a 120 h of time and your average wage in the developing business is around 130 $ / h. That´s around 15.000,- €.  or 120 - 140 people, that are fanatic as I am. I think it can be done, when it fits your personal situation.

We could do it on Kickstarter to minimize the risk for you. When it´s specified, what functions are wanted, you can calculate the developing hours and that´s the price, we have to collect.

Please get yourself a cup of coffee or tea and think about it.

This doesn’t sound like a half bad idea. I do have a couple of go to DAWS on iOS and have dumped more money than I care to admit trying others. I would love to see Caustic get at least one more good update. I’d back a kickstarter or something to the tune of a C-note or more.

Uuh,

Uuh,

I thought this thread would explode of replies. Savwiton, thank you that you teamed me. But even if there were 1473 Replies on this, the only reply that counts is the one of the DEV. So we will wait and see. My daily work includes to instruct software developing companies to develop software for my company. And the experience has shown, that most DEVs needs time to compare all pro´s and con´s of such a project.

Is there anyone here who has experience in starting a kickstarter (or other plattform) campaign ?

Come on girls and boys get yourself here and support this and your favourite DEV and programming artist !

Thing is mister bob, this has

Thing is mister bob, this has been re-iterated many times on the forum.
My impression is that Rej has moved on from this project.
I'm reflecting based on my own perspective here, but my impression is that Caustic was never a question of making money but rather a passion for creating something.
Eventually, a single person sw dev project like that will become overwhelming, especially with the flood of feature improvement requests from eager users.
Eventually a passion-based project can start to feel less important in the puzzle of putting ones' life together.

From reading on the forum, it seems like Rej has taken a break indefinitely.
I'm hoping for further development as much as anyone else, and I truly hope that if he's reading this he takes it for what it is: an expression of passionate appreciation of his product and not as pressure to keep pushing out code.

I appreciate that. You're pretty spot on, except about giving up on the project. I'm not saying when but I'd love to find the motivation to work on Caustic again but indeed every time I chime in like this, what inevitably follows is a list of "I want" feature requests. And then motivation plummets again

Yeah would love to see

Yeah would love to see Caustic development restarted but we've all got different ideas about what we'd like to see next... Midi out/sync, audio tracks, beat slicer blah blah.

I've gone and jumped ship to ios and bought Cubasis and a stupid amount of synths and FX to use with it. It's great. No regrets.
Thing is, I know I'm still gonna use Caustic because the work flow is just suberb and it's now hardwired to my brain. Happy to use 2 DAWs and wait to see what, if anything, becomes of Caustic.

@mr bob: I think this is a great idea, I would definitely contribute. I hope more people read this and do the same.

@Rej: People will always want, Rej! What matters, is that if you still feel that at some point you will continue developing Caustic you shouldn't pay attention to the "wants". By now you know what's most important, what comes first, and that's how in my personal opinion you should go about it. You have changed the game so to speak and many people have found Caustic to be just right for expressing themselves, and it's quite a chameleon of an app! If I were you, being the proud papa of this project I'd feel responsible to give more to my hungry kids..lollaugh. As a Single Cell you can do so much, but maybe as Multiple Cells more can be done, maybe another company/collaborator would be interested in developing Caustic further? These are just thoughts, I'm not sure how things could work in the real world, I just hope that Caustic will continue to evolve as many of us have, by using the app religiously over the past few years...If I remember well from reading another thread a while back I feel that maybe if many people contribute and raise a reasonable amount of funds it would be good enough to motivate you, maybe with little baby steps...It's many "maybes" at this point, they are all different, and what moves us to take different directions depends on the individual. Just my 2 cents, be well!

I saw this the other day, I don't hink I have to say anything other than Rej is an artist just like everyone else, but his poetry is code.

Indie devs have a real sensitive heart and Rej has a big one. Sensitivity overules money IMHO so it's important to see the human with a family that just wanted to have fun.

IMHO.

i think we should definetly be open to the idea of the caustic project going open source (at least on pc). I really want this project to continue and develop as much as it has in the past.

Who you mean with "we"?
As I understand, then only person you want to be open to the open source idea is Rej, the developer.

but indeed every time I chime in like this, what inevitably follows is a list of "I want" feature requests. And then motivation plummets again

I know exactly what you mean, Rej.
Being an indie developer myself, I know how difficult it can be to keep the right distance to such a project.

Besides this website I’m a

Besides this website I’m a regular visitor of the Audiobus site.. And there are basically 2 kind of post there:
- bugs spotted
- wanted features

People are hard to please and they always want more and more. I can imagine that being frustrating for a developer as people are never satisfied. What also happens is that they want to change an app into another one feature-wise. I bought this app Koala Sampler, an ultra basic sampler. But now the users are asking for so many new features that they basically want to turn the app into iMPC Pro ;-)

I welcome updates ofcourse but right now we already have so much handy features, no other app offers this much.. Just one wish, leave 3.2 as it and just release a new - paid for -  version that I can use alongside v3.2..

I’d be happy if the feature

I’d be happy if the feature set remained exactly the same and Caustic was “just updated” to be fully compatible with latest iOS. Caustic already has more than enough tools to make great music.

@Rej: Good to see you! And

@Rej: Good to see you! And thank you!!

@Mike: Not much to argue with there.

@anickt: Pretty much my thoughts, too. Just some future proofing and playin well with others.

While I get the whole "artist" thing, my own experience is there are skill sets I have that I enjoy using and skill sets that I use to pay the bills. If someone offered me some money to utilize my enjoyable skill set, it would go a long ways to motivate me to go that direction. Just my perspective.

In this age of the Walmartization of Western Civilization, where virtually EVERYTHING is monetized, who can blame us for thinking that maybe if we throw some cash at a situation, we might get some results?

On the other hand, I've been lurking on this forum long enough to know that eventually, more good things will flow our way.

It's been a very long time

It's been a very long time since I've posted in this forum but I thought I would chime in as reading Rej's response has got me thinking.

After all of these years of development and more recently lack of development, has anyone asked Rej what HE wants to do with Caustic? I mean he programmed it and it is HIS creation. We are are all along for the ride, even if that ride has slowed way down.

So Rej, what do you want to do with Caustic? What are some changes or features you would like to add or change that are fun for you to code? Honestly I think it would be cool to see what you would want to do in the future, without any outside influence, pressure, time constraints etc...

Or if you are too busy to answer that is cool too. I have my own life challenges and totally understand (I havent produced any music in a long time, just too busy with life!). I hope to one day get back into music making but I have learned not to put unnecessary pressure on myself.

Anyway, happy living brotha!

@Rej, I agree with mekanism.

@Rej, I agree with mekanism. It's right. I would like to know what could be a future update that comes only from one of your ideas, ignoring the requests of us users. I think you might surprise us.

About the post: I am of the opinion that if someone offered me $ 100 to $ 200, it would mean that my project not only likes, but above all has great potential. Now imagine if there were a hundred or two hundred (or even a thousand) people who would give you $ 100.

You could have a lot of money to pay employees and stay within the app's fees. Whether you accept it or not, for me it is indifferent, because I don't want to make any pressure, on the contrary ... When the public likes something, the requests come.

Maybe this several years ago, you didn't take it into account, but now this is the reality. However, beyond everything, I'd like to see an update that comes from what YOU want to implement.

@DanieleZummo If you read the dev's comments, then you can be almost 100% sure that this is not about money. If you really want to change something quickly, then you should find at least 10000 people who are willing to spend 100$, and then buy the whole thing from the dev.

@ Planeth, it was clear that he is not driven by money. I don't know exactly how many of us are in here, but whoever works could give this $ 100. In fact the author of the post would like to create a Kickstarter.

When you find something that

When you find something that you love you want it to live forever. Maybe one day you feel the fear that it couldn't be there forever. Caustic made me make music. Never made music before. Enjoy to explore it so much. Was a Dev once. Know about the emotional pressure projects could develop. Was asking for an update here once too. Felt the fear that caustic could end once too. But today I am just happy that it is there and thankful. I don't think that there won't be an update but I guess there is way more work included than one could see at the first glimpse. Tuesday will come

@Rej @Mike I've missed you

@Rej @Mike I've missed you guys for so long, keep at it! it's the software you've created together which kept me going and discovering that its not gloom and doom forever... Some might think theres a "roof" to hell inwhich we trap ourselves in.. at the worst of times when we just stair at that wall and wonder "How much further could I possibly fall?" the answer is indeterminant... there is no limit, you can always find a backfoor to escape to. Autism is not a an illness, its a disability and I live with it - it brings rise to new challenges, adventures and most importantly, love. 1 might be the lonesliest number, until you realise that 0 was infront of it the whole time [01] - the power of 2, with respect to 0!

as for update suggestions... well, perhaps I might have to tell you a thing or 2 about bitwig 3 (the tool I use for post-processing Caustic exports). More specifically, a plugin called Ozone elements... @Rej, ever heard of a brick filter? xD :: https://imgur.com/rJlzjRS.png

@Adrian King I don't know

@Adrian King I don't know much to say other than, you rock, always have and keep rockin.

You were an inspiration to me with your tracks years ago, I saw the spark in you and I never met you in person. So yeah, screw "diseases", this is life we are living and we all have those hurdles in one form or another.

I wrote Caustic Guide using your tracks as unit tests, you helped this community a ton man.

This year broke me in half, but like the Phoenix, if we are meant to rise from the ashes, we don't even have a choice.

Rej, the more I look back, the more I can't thank you enough for letting me screw around with your ideas.

Peace all.

The ONLY thing I want at all

The ONLY thing I want at all is to be able to continue using Caustic AS IS with new updates to Android. I do a ton of stuff with this app. So far it is working as Android continues to move up in versions. However, I know that the day will come when Caustic just stops working with newer versions, and that scares me. Of course I would love new features but I'll settle for just being able to continue using Caustic for the foreseeable future. Thanks Rej for an incredible music making app on this platform. In my opinion nothing even comes close!

First off @rej, thank you so

First off @rej, thank you so much for this wonderful program.
I have enjoyed using this for many years now so much so that I had lost an account and bought everything all over again...it is and has been my only usable DAW I never could pick up anything else after this....i just cant get past the touchscreen interface and the brilliant simplicity of the work flow....
Yes there are wishes and wants....no man ever wants to just fuck once....lol
But
I want you to know that what ever happens...I am one of of those people that would support and pay 100Plus dollars to see your passion grow....and although not a programmer or a tech of any good sort really.....I would be happy to contribute as a marketer....
I know android itself will most likely win the race but that's why I have it on 4 devices and two are dedicated and never update....so I know I will always have a vintage copy with full preset loadout....lots of love
