this is my latest track using the very gritty grainy sub synth bass noise I have created. It still needs work but I never seem to have time so I'll post where I am with it now. Can't seem to get my drums at the right level. anyway, enjoy :) by the way I haven't seen Zicman post anything lately, where is he?? (listen with headphones if you can)
not finished but here it is
Yo !
I like big sounds like that :) , unfortunatly my headphones sux and i can't hear bass.
And thx i'm here but last days Grimrock was out (yes i love dungeon crawler ) and i begin music but i don't know how to finish them >_<
This afternoon i'll listen your song with good HP with bass *_*

Man that is right in your face dont-mess-with-me. Nice
This is a really good start. 1/4 of the way into the song I said to myself a little wobble would sound good right now, then you added the wobble on top of the sub synth.
Nice drum sequence as well.
thanks jblann and mike! just wish i had more time to work on these. maybe its just coz im a slooooowww person, I take ages to do anything :)
Drum levels suggestion????? If using beatbox.... bring up the kick level a tad.... Open up a "Distortion" Insert on that channel -- Saturate -- but drive it just enough to fatten it up..... Add a Compressor Insert at the bottem Low Threshhold and High Ratio -- Moderate attack (@20ms) fast release (listen for it as you set it)
I always add a Compressor at the final signal stage at the end to manage any over-peaks in the overall mix and add some punch and "loudness" and sonic character (too bad no multi-band comp here)
You can also change the "channel affect" on the insert comp to modulate your bass sound too..... that will let your kick drum stand out a bit as well....
I was quite disappointed with my drum levels especially at the end, I already have the kick up full and thats the limit of my technical ability. Thanks for the tips I shall give them a go. With regards to the compressor, I know its important but something I struggle with and dont have the knowledge to utilise it properly
This sounds like a nice tutorial for tips and tricks. The compressor is really not complicated, think of it as being on a construction site with all the loud noises. You then put ear plugs in and the sound in your ear gets "compressed" sounding. That is because the ear plugs are limiting the frequencies that are getting to your ear.
Basically the compressor is a milti-facted ear plug effect that can be set to be thick or thin, made out of metal or plastic. You see, the Ratio and Threshold effect the characteristics of what frequencies are let through.
The final aspect of the compressor is how it will only get turned on/off at certain frequency levels.
Anyway, I'm not a signal guru but, you might search the site, I think there was actually a thread that discussed the use of the Compressor.
The Compressor is also used to get some really kewl ducking sounds if connected to drums or bass, something that has a rhythm on or off beat.
Mike
RejDev put down a good post on a recent thread about the compressor and how you can use it in a variety of ways in caustic.... if you are able to search this forum for it, youll find it. Using a compressor even as a master fx...... try this: threshold about 8:00, ratio about 3:00, attack about 9:00, release about 3:00 depeneding on your tempo of course.... then youll hear it working
Feature request? Multi band? Dual band comp/limit? Yeah while im dreaming :)
