Hi, I've found a number of websites that have loads of free samples on them.
Cyberworm's sample blog has loads of classic synth sounds
www.rhythm-lab.com
waveformless is very good too
waveformless.blogspot.co.uk
Many are 24bit but can easily be converted to 16bit in Audacity (free sound editing software) You can import audio to allow batch conversion rather than opening individual samples. my laptop is fairly standard and easily handles 40 or so at a time.
My favourite site at present is bedroom producers blog
bedroomproducersblog.com
This has samples and vsti synths - you can download something like tobybears minihost which can host a single vsti and record the output to wav. It seems easier to record a longer wav and then split it in audacity rather than record individual notes.
If you have a daw this is probably an unnecessary step as you'll load the vsti direct but it's a quick and easy way to play with and record synth sounds and to be honest i find caustic much easier and quicker for recording ideas
I have found a few goodies there but not much useable material bit maybe Im too picky. But that is a good source for sounds if you are patient enough to surf thru them all
Thanks for the link Andrulian, checking out some of the 16 bit packs.
Don't know if it's me missing something or audacity acting up. Changed the quality to 16 bit in the settings, but audacity keeps importing most (if not all) samples as 32 bit. Took a while to covert, but it seems to have worked.
Audacity and pretty much all other DAW programs upconverts samples to 32bit float for workstation use, it will export back to 16 bit for Caustic use.
Noticed it today. Exports as set.
Works quite fast. Got gameboy sounds now.
I'm new to caustic and to "electronic music" making in general. How can i save these wav files to caustic directory and how can i play these in the app?
Hi Supernaut!
Have you watched the PCM video?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hcGm-y0Myw
Rej explains how to load multi samples. set the level, tuning loop points and how to save it as a PCMsynth preset for use in your projects
If you dowmload the free caustic community pack 1 there are some more wav files for you to practice with.

Use Audacity to translate the 24bit samples to 16bit PCM samples. To do this, open any 24bit files in audacity and export them as 16bit.
It helps to, in the folder you have the samples saved to, to add a column for sample size in windows explorer. Right click the sort columns (whatever theyre called) and click "More" in the context menu, then scroll down in the list to "Audio sample size" and check the box. Then click ok, and click the column header for the sample size column to sort by sample size so you can easily select all the 24bit samples at the same time.
Hope this helps

I'm only using Caustic on my phone (HTC Desire HD) so 2 very useful apps are "Tape Machine" to convert wavs to 16 bit and "File Manager" to organise stuff.
More free samples yay!

Free samples = yaaawwwnnnnnn
boring, you'll get frustrated and want something else.
Hey, psssst want some free samples? presets? --- HERE ----
I usually get my samples on freesound.org cuz my idol mr. Paul Chambers gets his sounds. Like this bomb on Yeah, Techno: http://www.freesound.org/people/sleep/sounds/925/
Waiting for Wardini to go get that bomb sound in 3.....2.....1......
I was looking for some acoustic guitar samples and came across musicradar's site. Most samples are 24 bit I think will work in 2.1. There are thousands of free high quality royalty free samples on that site, probably the best i have found so far. The great thing is they have preview sounds for each pack that actually play instantly, makes sifting through the packs much quicker!

Yes Jason, I know about the builderz packs and love them, but we do need one shots as well, not only for Caustic but for our other DAW's too!
Understood. I know Zvon has a big Acoustic guitar pack that is worth checking out as well (a free demo of that pack available too)
has anyone had problems downloading sounds from the musicradar site and the freesound site? im not sure whats going on but all the sounds are distorted and unsable noise but they sound ok on my computer but on the kindle they are unrecognizable. are there differences in wav files?
maybe the kindle cannot play certain bitrates? ive even tried transfering the unzipped files via usb from my netbook to the kindle they transfer ...but not usable..
when i play the sounds from
musicradar on my transformer prime with the google music player, it sounds distorted.
But when i import it in the subsynth from Caustic then it sounds correct.
Also with the app Tape-Machine it works ok. Perhaps you can try to load the sounds with TapeMachine and then save it again.
Audacity for Windows will take in most audio formats that you can edit or export back out to WAV 16/44.1 (recommend export summed mono) That should clear alot of these little hiccups up for you.
i think the issue is the bit rate it seems that the kindle will not play 24 bit samples correctly but 16 bit samples are ok. im not familar with audacity where can i get it what does it do?
lol never mind i just downloaded it and installed it...this should solve my issues.
For what the Caustic App does and how it handles audio and mixing for what we use it for, 16 bit samples are more than sufficient..... 24 bit not nessecary. Most modern synths still compress cram their multi-samples in 8 bit... just my $.02
I thought 2.1 has 24bit support now?
It does, 2.1 should support any sampling rate, mono or stereo, 8-16-24-32-64 bits. This is for all platforms, it's purely software so it shouldn't vary on any device.
If you have a WAV file that doesn't load, send it to me via email. The only thing I don't support is compressed WAV but those are quite rare.
im not sure why some of these wavs wont play on the kindle, there is something about these wavs the kindle doesnt like....they are distorted on any app that plays wavs... so it really has nothing to do with caustic....if i download them onto my computer and import them into audacity and then export them as 16 bit wavs they transfer to the kindle fine.
can you send me (or send me a link) to one of these? I can test on my Kindle and compare it to others as well as looking to see if the loading code does anything special with them.
www.musicradar.com is the site youll have to download a pack.....i had trouble getting them to download ..i can email a wav that has the destortion in it im pretty sure the damage is perminant since in another app where i can see the actual waveform and the destortion is in the wave itself not the player or caustic i know its weird.....and it drives me crazy because i cant figure out whats going on...is it my kindle specifically? or is it any kindle? they sound fine on the computer without converting them...lol puzzzling indeed.
aparently there is no way to attatch a file via email on this site on my kindle...youll have to send me an email to my regular email address then ill reply with the wav attatched
Say, do you DropBox? They have also a mobile app, that lets you send/receive files from your phone etc...
not yet ill look into it ive only had this kindle for a couple months .
i should say that some wavs are ok...i dont know why these wavs are different. but using audacity has pretty much solved the issues im having .
this guy is putting up 10 samples a day for 2013
http://mitchellnordine.com/
Welcome to the future! Happy 2013! I’m pretty sure this is the first New Years Resolution that I’ve ever really dived into… And I’m really flipping excited for it.
Today I’m launching the Daily 10 Sample Series – Every day of this year i’ll release 10 HQ samples right here for free!
I hope he can keep up! Seems like quite the task

Thank you for sharing this, Wardini. I spend some time listening to the amazing work of Mindtree.
Yes I agree that is quite a task and alot of effort to do that, 10 samples a day given free, interesting marketing of his work I guess. I like to put up a free content pack every three paid packs, to give away some freebies myself, so everyone can enjoy a healthy free taste of my work.... but it is alot of hard work to do that. But I really enjoy it when I hear you guy's tracks and I hear my stuff in there, used in unique ways, and that is rewarding for me.
Hope that dude can keep up..... 10 per day = 3650 samples for the year.
