Fly By Wire (Bojeroo Style) - new version

Caustic Song file (optional):

I loved Bojeroo's last tune so much that when he shared the Caustic file I borrowed the Modular set up and created a little tribute wink

**Okay, new version uploaded, title changed to match the theme of Bojeroo's original and stretched out to 4 mins**

I'm honoured to have inspired

I'm honoured to have inspired anybody to do anything!

Nice little tribute/remix, maybe part of an EP where all the tracks begin with "Fly-by-". I'm thinking either "Night" or "Seat of your pants" for this one! ;o)

I'm glad (and a little relieved) that you liked it laugh

My track ended up closer to early Orbital than the Progressive House vibes of your original - your beats are crisper and your two note filtered modular bassline has a bit more bite and mystery than mine.

It was a fun and educational excerise laugh

No need to be relieved! I'm

No need to be relieved! I'm happy for people to remix, draw inspiration from or whatever. :o)

I'm a big Orbital fan, and the modular with split semis was definitely a nod to their early stuff where they did that a lot.

I always struggle to define what genre my tracks are, so what constitutes progressive house?

it's a tricky one, sometimes

it's a tricky one, sometimes you can listen to a track and immediately assign it a genre even though you struggle to say why when challenged - makes you realise how tenuous the concept can be...

Progressive House - to me it means house with elements of techno and trance, quite european sounding, with a chunky, wide sound. Pretty far away from the Chicago House Sound and even further away from House Music's roots in Disco. Sasha and John Digweed (as DJ's) and Leftfield (as artists, up to and including Leftism) probaby epitomise this sound for me.

This is what wikipedia has to say on the subject; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_house

Justin Robertson's Lionrock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPw9ABHhH8c) and Scubadevils (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkXdggtyHzU) are a couple of other pointers too.

Thanks for the explanation

Thanks for the explanation James. I struggle with sub-genres and derivatives!

Genres meant a lot more to me

Genres meant a lot more to me in the 1990's when I was out clubbing most weekends, buying vinyl, learning how to DJ and reading Mixmag and DJ etc

Dance music culture in the UK was very genre orientated and you ended up absorbing it by osmosis - most of it seems pretty meaningless in hindsight and led to club nights being very genre specific and self-limited indecision
