Good morning,
Last night I was reading responses to another post of mine in the 'Off-topic' forum, about electronic music artists and the definition of a 'real' musician. User RobFarley mentioned something about how we 'collaborate' through this site, whereas some more traditional instrument players would get together and have a jam session together.
I'm proposing a 'jam session' for us. I'm wondering if anyone is interested in this: Get 14+1 Caustic Warriors lined up to put a track together. The way it would work is the first person adds a machine to Caustic and creates patterns, and adds it to the sequencer. Then the second person does the same thing, and so on down the line. Each person can also add effects for his/her machine. When all 14 machine slots have been filled, then the +1 (15th) person mixes and masters it all, and then uploads it to the Caustic group on Soundcloud and creates a post here with the completed track.

RULES (as suggested by TYRINASOARUS):
- Everyone gets up to 3 days of editing before their turn is surpassed and they are placed somewhere else.
- When the last editer posts, he also includes the warrior list in the discription.
- The track can't surpass 5 min.
- After the track is done and Jason pulls everything together, we all look at the file before its uploaded and post a yay or nay and post our opinions on things that can be changed for the better (some people do certain things better than jason) and once we all reach reasonable, mutual satisfaction <with the project> the warrior with the most followers uploads and each warrior repost the song.
Caustic File Naming Convention (Suggested by mike):
Follow the format "Communtity Jam 1 01.caustic" The "1" is the track (our first collab project), and the "01" is the member's machine/rack number. When you are done, they upload it through a comment on this thread, and it will be sequential. Once the previous member's track is up and all can see the file in the comment, the next member downloads that .caustic file and goes to work. The cycle repeats until member #14 has uploaded his file and then jblann1 works his magic.
"Behind the Scenes" Video side-project by jblann1:
If you are able to, capture video or screenshots of your part in this collaboration. Send the files to eipstudiosohio at gmail dot com and Jason is going to throw together a short video of how our end-product from this project was put together.
"Remix Guidelines" (Suggested by Gharwen):
For the remixes I would advice some rule:
- only use existing pattern (including not used pattern like ska did it)
- no change of preset parameters for the sound of a machine (except maybe cutof in modular like mniip did it in his machine because it's like a fade-in/fade-out)
- maybe no change of FX, except wet knob (in this term things like EQ, filter, compressor and limiter aren't FX to me, so they can be changed, they only influence the signal not the sound)
- file naming: CommunityJam1_%nickname% (mine for example CommunityJam1_Gharwen)
That is a superb idea!!! Would love to take part but am on iOS caustic beta and cannot yet import track projects. However, the idea is excellent and very exciting!
hope you get it arranged ASAP:)
that will be awesome =) cool idea...
Cool. How about after we get 15 people interested, we start? We can use the timeline of responses to this thread I guess to determine order, or folks can just say when they would like to go next. It doesn't matter to me. We can figure it out after we get the 15 Warriors.
Here's the list of participants so far. (I'll update it as the thread grows):
1. bidzo
2. Caustic Replay (myself)

I'll sign up to be number 15....... Mmmmm?
That will be very interesting!
And I agree that Jason should be no. 15 because of his post in the past I think he's one who has very good skills in end mixing.
He was my first thought when I read the first post and before I read Jasons post...

You know, the end result could be EXCELLENT PROMO FOR THE LAUNCH OF 3.0 on all relevant platforms..if someone made a video to match whatever results from this collab, I'm sure Rez could use it to help push "the one app to rule them all"..
Any digital video artists on this forum??
Sorry, Gharwen, I didn't interpret your earlier response as wanting in. Where do you want to be in the lineup?

Transformer man, you should edit your post and put the band members list in that.
Mike
assume respectively, collabs 1-15 == low end to high end devices? (roughly anyway)
I can imagine it only makes sense that getting on to 14 racks with fx will really squeeze every ounce of CPU if your device is low end. I know Jason will be fine;) but for those who are willing to participate, just bear that in mind when choosing your que
CausticTransformer, might I also suggest that once you have the rack full, you put specific time constraints on each member's session time like 1 day or something. This way the musicians involved can anticipate the day they add their track and be ready. You can also put this in the original post.
Also, specify a naming convention, like CommuntityJam1_01.caustic The 01 is the members track number. So when they are done, they upload it through a comment on this thread, and it will be sequential. Once the previous member's track is up and the next can see the file in the comment, the next member downloads that .caustic file and goes to work.
Make sense?
Mike
I'll make a fun video thingy with this project, to show how easy it is to collab and collectively create unique grooves with the app....
Hey guys, tell you what. Each of you that works on your track, send me pictures or short video clips to:
eipstudiosohio at gmail dot com,
and I will compile it all into my video presentation, will make it look really cool when I get done with it. And I will work on the video as your images come to me, so when the final product is done and I wrap it up in a nice sonic flavor, I'll hopefully have a video presentation done at the same time, so everyone can hear and see how this whole thing put together.
I'll put it at the top of my video list that I'm currently putting together (I'm off work the rest of this week, so I'm gonna have some fun)
If there's a space left I'm in too, I'm sure the track will be crying out for another Bassline
Device wise I'll probably be okay in any of the remaining places, 1st gen Nexus 7 seems to be holding up fine on C3. Don't forget that you can always switch to the windows version if that option is available to you.

OT, James I did love your last track and thanks for the mention on the 32nd note bassline sound, hehe.
I thought I could stay off this damn site for 1 week, I lasted 3 days.
Mike
Thanks man
OT = off topic?

OT == Off Topic, we are now equal on acronymn confusion, take that. POS
Mike
Here are a set of rules I think could/should apply:
If it turns out good, maybe we can make a soundcloud group/page and we can do this some more. Will edit when I realize something in this is stupid :P
MY MUSIC
Ha Ha!
Just thinking out loud btw, if the sound is getting pretty crowded towards machine 14, adding a vocoder as an extra effects channel would be a cool option.
Or a PCM Synth with some vocal/speech samples - we don't all need to add chords, beats, extra melodies etc.

Actually my BD is on an 11, so put me down for the 11th machine, I theoretically am on vacation, my kids are home from school anyway.
Mike
Hey, nice idea! I started something like that just before Caustic3 beta annoucements, but everyone (include myself) was involved in testing. Count me in and place me anywhere in the list.
We can still do your idea, I think this is unique right now because it's just one track. Quick and dirty, see what gets created.
Mike
With the name, obviously when you are in Caustic you can name it what ever you want, but when you save it as a final to upload make sure it meets the naming convention.
I ask this becasue if this takes off I can do some funky stuff on the server with files and other fun stuff if the names are "programmable". This could actually turn into a Caustic Core app where we don't have to uplad to the site, I can see an idea hatching in my head already.
Mike
BTW Remember, send me pics and video clips.... I'll put it together something cool FWIW
Is track 14 still available? If so I would like to participate.
So ummm, who's the designated PM of this collab-op IYKWIM? It would appear that the Mek has snagged #14?
Okay, we have all our warriors.
bidzo, if you would start us off on 11/28/13 & upload by 12/1/13 "Communtity Jam 1 01.caustic", then we can get this party started.
Google Play! | Facebook | YouTube!
Wow, that was a quick house-building there...... 16 hours woooo!

Imo track 1 should be drums so that any side chaining is made easier by only having to toggle the compressor to track 1.
This should be fun to watch. Enjoy!
When the song will be announced to the crowd maybe it's so good that we all become stars, live in hill top houses, driving 15 cars... (and so on)
Hey, 15 cars...? That matched...
https://soundcloud.com/gharwen
One car each sounds fair enough, but if the tub is only big enough for 10 plus me, who stays dirty?
Have a little listen to my work.
