Introductions of community members

Hi,

My name is Michael Schmalle, I live in Meredith New Hampshire US. Some of you may know me and others new to the forum don't but I helped Rej create this site and a bunch of other things. Working on a project called Caustic Live, and have seen Caustic grow into the monster it is today.

The point of this thread is for other to show their face! This is probably the first time others can actually see a bit of me. Today as Caustic 3 was released we got our first real big snow storm and I got to play with a new toy along with getting presets visible on the site, what a day.

All you other regulars, why don't you tag onto this, to show your support of the app and community.

And yes, I wear a helmet, just was riding on the property... wink

Hi, my name is Patrick Tow. I

Hi, my name is Patrick Tow. I've been using Caustic since last summer but just joined the forums yesterday (or actually really early this morning). Nice to meet ya. :) I'm from Houston, TX but attend the University of North Texas in Denton, TX, closer to Dallas. No major yet but thinking about pursuing Integrative Studies with specializations in music, business, and creative writing. I've been playing guitar for about 6 years and listen to tons of different styles of music, but I guess if I have a musical "home base" it would be seomwhere around rock and metal, especially the more progressive side of it. But really I don't like to fixate too much on any one genre and prefer listening to a variety of music. The music I love the most usually has some sort of mix between good songwriting/composition, strong atmosphere (darkness is optional), and something that makes it stand out as unique and creative.

Like i said, I started getting into Caustic at some point last summer. I was exploring video game music for a while and then started looking into chiptune a bit, and I loved the idea of composing awesome music simply using little electronic devices from everyday life, so I started looking into some different Android apps for my phone when I found Caustic 2 and started messing around with trying to create some electronic music for the first time. Really fun app, and I've found it useful for not only electronic music but also as a way to jot down melodies when I don't have my guitar on hand.

Oh, and since I mentioned video game music, my favorite would have to be the music from the Metroid franchise! :D I absolutely love those haunting atmospheres.

I don't have a lot of good pictures of myself, but here's a recent one from last August when I met the guitarist Guthrie Govan: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10201385400732668&l=05e352aefe

Im Andrew from Yorkshire,

Im Andrew from Yorkshire, England. My Dad was (retired now) a professional musician for 40 years, worked with the likes of Tony Bennett back in the 60’s. Unfortunately the musical gene mainly skipped me by. I do play a bit of guitar but my wife moans at me if I play it and my 3 year old daughter thinks it’s funny to stretch the strings and here them make funny noises *rolls eyes*.

So Caustic is a great way for me to make some music in private. Influences – massive Dylan fan, Tchaikovsky, Porcupine Tree but lately a lot of post-rock. 65 Days of Static, Maybeshewill, Mogwai and Mono in particular are current favourites, although trying to reproduce that sort of sound is proving difficult so im currently just sticking to some dance music which I find easier to get my head around.

Hi,

Hi,

I go by the name ‘wardini’ as your species would have a hard time pronouncing my correct title without the proper mandibles.  Unfortunately I picked the name at random just for the way the unique aural characteristics tickles my antenna, not realizing how stupid it was or that I would be stuck with it for quite a while.  I am interested in all kinds of music, (I hate it when people say that don’t you?.... but honestly, I  am)  I have a particular interest in electronically derived sounds and  music. Especially i love music conceived, created, composed, performed and distributed by solitary individuals. IMHO that is the most honest and real type of music and art imaginable. Where I come from there are only two kinds of music; Good and Bad ……so I always try to make a little of each .. and now thankfully, I am learning to mix in some Ugly. My favorite food is a peanut- butter, watercress, kimchi, and vegemite sandwich on pumpernickel, and my preferred beverage is a Guinness, Absinth, Raki & Aquavit cocktail with a Slurm & Major Grey’s Chutney Chaser.

I am very proud to be a part of this community and happy to count many members as friends. Not only is it a unique group of caring, talented, and creative individuals, but it has introduced me to wonderful music that I may have never otherwise heard.

Hello Causticators

I am a friendly wierdo living in Olympia WA.  I've used a ton of DAWs and hardware but can solidly say that Caustic is one of the best.  I am interested in a lot of genres like jungle, techno, ambient, hiphop w/e as long as it has soul. I am really impressed with some of the music yall have made especially some of the jungle/dnb stuff.

Currently I am spending hours getting lost in the sonic caustic sauce and as soon as I finish a track I'll gladly post it here.

here is a link to some of my tracks not made with The Caus (https://soundcloud.com/lechuguilla)

I'm Ryan. I've been on the "bedroom musician" scene since 2001. The very first project I ever finished no longer exists... It really pains me to remember that, but judging by what I used back then (Sound Club, Hammerhead Rhythm, and Windows Sound Recorder), perhaps it wasn't too amazing. I have spent many years using FL Studio, way back when it was FruityLoops, first version for me being 3.4.5. I discovered Caustic over 2 years ago and up until the RCs for Caustic 3 surfaced, I flipped back and forth between FL and Caustic. The only things that seem to keep me from using Caustic exclusively are FL's time stretching, multi-format support, and overall variety with VST/VSTi plugins. I have done a lot of remixes, mashups, and multitrack shifts... Most of which is on my YouTube channel.

Here's a link to one of my songs... Check out the others sometime!

Saw this pop up after Ash posted and was inspired to share as well.

My name is Jason.

I live near Minneapolis (MN, US, Earth) and work as an IT manager at a social service nonprofit. When not "saving the world (one computer at a time)" I spend time with my girls (wife and two daughters) 90% of the time. In the remaining 10% I try as hard as possible to fit in music production (as my solo project 17hex and with my Industrial/Electronic band Kether, with whom I am singing in the above photo), Drupal CMS design, graphic design, board game design, rpg's, sewing, occult studies, writing, archaeology, and spending as much time outside as the weather in MN allows.

I've been producing music since 1996, but music has always been a huge part of my life.  I have always loved performing music live, and am always exploring news ways to adapt my constantly evolving music hardware/software setup to whatever musical environment I am in.  Caustic is pretty ideal for this, and I use it as my primary music creation tool now.

All of you on this forum have been super great, and Rej I cannot thank you enough for all of the work and support that you have put into Caustic.

peace

DQubd's intro

Hi, my name is Dwight David Denzer, aka DQubd and tercathian, and I'm a music junkie.

My first cognization of sound, movement, and hence music came at the ripe old age of three! I heard a sound that caught my attention in church one long-ago Sunday morn, and worked it out that the person up front there at that big box, wearing that flowing red robe was making the sounds up there in the air...change. Well I wanted to do THAT! They tell me that as soon as I could, I was on my way up to investigate the organ and organist further. I parked my little butt right next to the nice lady on the big wooden bench and watched her, enraptured. My love of sound and music has never abated since, and I'm now 55.

I've played piano, voice, baritone then trombone, organs of many styles, electric keys, synths, controllers, sound systems. Have been involved in classical, jazz, rock, pop, and church music in groups and solo. My influences have been wide and highly varied, everything from Stockhausen and Tangerine Dream to Don Ellis and Chick Corea to Andreas Vollenweider and Thievery Corporation to Talking Heads/TomTom Club and on and on. Favorite things to listen to nowadays are internet radio stations from across the globe like Cafe Cody and Radio PolskaStacja (especially the Klasyka Muzyki Elektroniczej substation). I don't have much interest in dark, negative, angry, or nonevolving styles, my music is positive, rhythmic sometimes and not othertimes, melodic, flowing, and evocative. If you can tell me what genre I play, please do so!

Wanting to make a career in music that didn't involve the hassles of performance, I also became aware of the great need for instruments that were capable of responding to quality performers, so I took up piano tuning and repair in 1981. I dropped all secular gigging over the years, and my performance work has moved from traditional church organist to become church keyboardist, so I have become that person I wanted to be all those years ago. I've gone from knowing only how to read notes and play what's on the page to making my own interpretation of a song, whether with notes or lead sheets. There will soon be a soundcloud track of a Caustic version of Eddie Watkins' I Am That I Am that my wife and I perform with.

Veronica and I have been married since 1997, living on a farmstead that has been in family for a few generations. We have 2 cats, Maxwell in his b&w tuxedo and Golden Sandy Beachey who looks his namesake, plus a nearly tame raccoon. We garden veggies, fruits, and flowers. Love to explore geography/geology by driving, hiking, and canoeing. Though no children together, V gave up a daughter for adoption in the mid80s who has become reintroduced to us, which has miraculously been wonderful for all involved.

I want to send out a big THANK YOU! to Reg for developing such a marvelous DAW as Caustic. Having experienced the evolution of recording, your work is exemplary of imagination, discipline, and communication that is rarely seen in the larger companies. Caustic makes me want to play with everything in a bright new light!

Also Thanks! go out to EIPSO and the other soundpack designers, to Skarabee and Reg again for the excellent tutorial vids, and to the other forum members who chime in so readily to answer questions. I've learned so much more scouring the forum topics than I had any idea I didn't even know I didn't know!

To the youngsters out there, you have tools here in Caustic to make Music Magic happen. Back in My Day we had to lug 400 pound Hammonds, Rhodes/Wurly, and amps uphill (stairs) both ways from Every Gig! You kids have to cart a tablet/smartphone, a keyboard/guitar/wind controller, an OTG cable, and a bluetooth speaker or two, and you're set. Easy, I tell you! Seriously, like any other musical endeavor, Practice, Practice, Practice! Anybody who made it to Carnegie Hall otherwise was a tourist or an audience member.

Peace....

Hi all,

Hi all,

I'm new here and have been using Caustic only for a couple weeks now after a loooong hiatus from making music. (Actually I sold all my stuff about 2 years after the DX7 came out, after a blackout, lol, maybe some of you guys were not even born back then.) I currently live in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Spain but am constantly on the road, and after all I still can't believe what this pocket sized tablet/Caustic combo is capable of ... what a liberation ... so at the moment and I guess for some time to come there's no need to look elsewhere, despite the drawbacks of Android (those latency issues suck BIG time). I downloaded/bought most of the available packs and some gigs of samples, so all that stuff is waiting to get organized. While there's still an incredible lot of features and possibilities waiting to be explored, here and there little pieces of music, mostly DnB, Deep House, NuJazz pop up and keep growing. Looking forward to share some of that stuff when it's ready. Many thanks to Rej and the contributing tribe!

Keep it up, folks!

Hello there, I'm Daniel. I'm from Santiago, Chile and I'm studying history. I've always loved music production and all the software that made this new era of music happen. I mean, in this days, if you have the right tools and know how to use them, you can create THE sound you want! Isn't that great? That's why I decided to learn the basics and learn to create my own music. I don't have any money to buy instruments for music production, so this app is a great starting point to learn the basics. So yeah... I hope to learn a lot here with you guys :)

You like trance? I like you

You like trance? I like you already.

I have a sick uplifting trance song in the works myself.

For trance leads, sawsynth is amazing, I found the best technique is to use two and layer them together. One will be more plucky, and the other will be a longer decaying supersaw. That seems to give a pro pluck sound.takes some tweaking to get it just right though, fiddly.

I make creative EDM utilising Caustic and many other Daws. See for yourself on my SoundCloud, you may like it :) https://soundcloud.com/xandyaudio thanks!

Hey guys! I'm kinda new here,

Hey guys! I'm kinda new here, and i just wanted to say hello. I downloaded Caustic a little while ago, and ive been experimenting with it. So far, its pretty easy to understand for someone who has had extremely little experience with music software (i tried flstudio once forever ago, but it confused the heck out of me so i just left it alone). Although i feel like im kinda just starting to get the hang of it, it all goes very deep and i joined this forum to see if i could maybe get a better feel for how to fully utilize the app. Ive watched all of the tutorials, some of them numerous times, but it just kinda seems like they really only scratch the surface. The kind of music i would like to create is also a little widespread so its a little difficult to try and focus myself into one genre, because my whims and inspirations change so often. Stuff i would like to try and create are like House, Electronica, Industrial, Dance, and a few others, taking most of my inspiration from groups like Gorillaz, deadmau5, MGMT, Nine Inch Nails, Death Grips, Enter Shikari, AWOLNATION, Muse, and the later works of Panic at the Disco and Fall Out Boy. I know most if not all of those are pretty popular (i dont really fancy myself a hipster or anything like that) but i'd like to range myself from the harsher tones of Enter Shikari and Death Grips to more lighter and upbeat stuff like Gorillaz and MGMT to also a bit more orchestrated (which i havent really found a way to mimic that quite yet in Caustic) stuff like Muse, with a little bit of potential chiptune influence in all of that. I really enjoy fusion genres and its kind of a dream of mine to be in a band in which i am a DJ/Keyboardist/possible vocalist(?) but right now id like to start off with trying to make some stuff on my own with Caustic, since im not very talented with many instruments, and I feel like the learning curve as far as makind full-fledged songs go is a little more accesible with this app. I'm looking forward to my stay here, and i hope you guys are friendly ^_^

Oh and the soundcloud link is the only thing ive fully made so far with Caustic. It's kind of shitty, but i think its pretty alright for a first try.

Gone 30 but still got all my hair, haven't quite reached puberty or maturity yet. Love all kinds of music. If it's catchy I like it. Love dance music of most types especially house, techno and trance variants but have spent a large portion of my life jamming to big stomping hardcore beats from happy hardcore/break beat to full on nose blead gabber. With a little drum n bass/jungle thrown in too. Enuf about me, I have no exceptional talents to mention. Apart from being a nob!

Hi

Hi

So i thought i would introduce myself. I'm John from Halifax, UK (near Leeds). 34 year old married man with 2 kids.

I have no musical knowledge to speak off (theory or caustic/DAWS) but i am working my way through the tutorials and devouring any other information i can lay my hands on.

I have a couple of Newbie questions, and i apologize in advance as you have probably answered these before!

1) Once i have finished my first track and would like to get feedback, would it be best to post in the forum or soundcloud group (or both)?

2) Can i get preset sounds and samples from other users? The tracks i am making at the moment sound very electronic with the free presets, but the music i want to make would be in the vibe of DJ Shadow and acts from the Ninja Tunes label (DJ Food, Mr Scruff etc), and also hip hop based sounds. Also are there any websites where i can get preset sounds from (even if they are not officially caustic)?

3) Is there an official facebook group?

4) I would love to get some preset vocals - are there any websites etc where i can get these? Also is it possible to get vocals from 'proper' songs? For example, i am an indie lad at heart and would love to lay a stone roses/blur vocal over some beats i have made.

That's all from me!

Thanks for reading

John

Hi John, welcome to the forum

Hi John, welcome to the forum...not too far from my original neck of the woods ( Carlisle ) ok some answers>>>

Yeah it's a good idea to join the Caustic group on Soundcloud, and when you have a finished track, there are different sections to this forum, one is called "Show & Tell". You can paste the url of the track into the dialog box when posting, you can also post the original caustic file and or mp3. Some users here post their tracks with the original caustic file, so if you want you can get information and presets from them. Also at the top of the forum page there is a button called presets good stuff from users in there. There are other sites that you can get soundfonts from that you can use, I've not done that so maybe someone else can give you web addresses.

Not sure about a Facebook page but think there is another thread along those lines in the active forum topics

Never used vocals but I know some use them, and again can maybe point you in that direction, but loved the Stone Roses so would like to hear that..

Have fun, and welcome to the community

Hi Wellsley

Hi Wellsley

Thanks for your answers! Oh my i'm so blind i didn't even see the Presets link at the top of the page.

Yeah i've joined the soundcloud group and some of the tracks blow my mind, also it seems a really friendly community.

Thanks

My name is Kevin and have

My name is Kevin and have been into music tracking as a hobby since Protracker on the Commodore Amiga.    I'm 41 years old, and run a crew called Broke-Ass-Kidz Productions.   We've only done one event which was a success and working on another event.  :D

I currently live near Memphis, Tn however I travel quite a bit and caustic is so much fun while flying.  :D

Caustic is a work of art worth supporting.

Sincerely,

DJ ATRoPINE
