Steve, if you had internet problems or something, and you want to have another go at this, let me know, and I'll throw your name back into the list. We just need to keep this thing moving with each person spending a max of 3 days on the file for the first round.
Jason, You haven't made this easy... 142bpm has proven a bit tricky for the drumwork, for what I'm trying to go for. Curse you! *shakes fist and screams at the sky* But, it's a nice problem to have!
I saw the pianoroll Mr. zero laid out for another collab track called 'the walk'... He had layers upon layers of kick drum....it was insane....but sounded cool.
Can't do that for a full drum set in this mix because you just get 1 machine....but what if you used the vocoder to do it? Then you could trigger stacks of the same drum with one machine, and still have room left for 5 more percussive instruments...
This may be me just dreaming up a hard way to do something easy. :-)
@cr: I'm not sure I follow the idea... To me, it would be much easier to layer the kick drums in an audio editor, export that, and then use the resulting sound for one of the 8 slots in a BeatBox. In "The Walk" I believe it was static kick layers, so in theory, that could work. Even after watching skarabee's vocoder tutorial, I have yet to explore it's possibilities.
@ Jason: The tempo alone isn't the main challenge... Your use of delay adds to the overall challenge. But I'm not worried. It ramps my anticipation in what's to come.

I'm a big fan of chip/bitcrushed drums, so with what Jason laid out I felt this was the appropriate direction. I'm hoping that with the other 12 machines in play they won't be swallowed up. I also did some 'manual compression' via automation (and perhaps got a bit carried away) to compensate... I'm very excited to see what direction this takes.

Well, couldn't one invoke the WAV editor in the Vocoder and paste mix samples? That could be done in Caustic. I haven't tinkered that much with it yet and I guess if you were to do that it would still be cheating if you were to eventually use a BeatBox...
