For various patent licensing reasons, I can't include mp3 export into Caustic. (well I could but it would cost me way more in fees than the feature is worth)
Until then, I "found" this nifty app that does the conversion. It's pretty fast, has no ads, no dodgy permissions. It even launches its browser right in the Caustic export folder, go figure...
Mp3Convert.apk [400Kb]
Nifty..... some may find this quite handy..... I currently use Audacity (Windows) to convert, but this one may let me do this and keep it all mobile, and send to SC all from my gear on the road.
Sweet

This is something I've mentioned in the past. I figured licensing was a large part of lack of mp3 support. Would there be a chance of incorporating ogg support for samples?

Thanks Rej,I'm gonna try and convert this to playbook. If the vocality worked why shouldn't this?:)

Rej, you are scaring me, that is Android UI you are in, talk about going to the other side. C++/OpenGL must have hated you yesterday.
Mike
What are you talking about Mike .. I found this remember .. but yeah Android UI stuff is a bit painful and I hadn't done any in a long time. The tools have come a long way since I last did though.
@celebzooz: the LAME encoding library is used here, compiled from native so I doubt it'll convert to .BAR using BB's automagic tool. I'm really surprised Vocality worked, I thought the text to speech stuff was Google's own and required special permission to use outside Android.
@theZEROProject: it would cost 5000$ per-platform to licence for encoding/decoding. the basic patents for mp3 should be running out in the next few years. I could offer ogg for samples, but is Ogg really a common exchange format for samples? I though it was mostly used for full tracks.
Oh yeah, well I meant I can't believe you are passing on an app you found that uses stock Android controls.
Nice to see the forum being used.
Mike
Soundcloud accepts oggs no problem. I export all my tunes as ogg then share it via soundcloud app to upload.

Rej, I used ogg for all my in game samples when I used to write computer games for the same licencing reasons. Never thought anything of it really. Just another format.
Certainly in the indie game Dev world it's common.

agreed, it's what we used too. I've just not seen many sample libraries distributed in Ogg or any compressed format for that matter. (maybe FLAC)
Yah Rej,you were right..installs but crashes.Vocality only works on playbook because blackberry decided to put tts on the playbook.

It would be nice to have the ability to load an MP3 in the WAV editor to extract samples. I know other apps are more than capable of this, but they're not always reliable. Ring Maker PRO has a hard time with a big library, and usually crashes after a long lag.
VIOLENT NEUROSIS (YouTube) ...https://www.youtube.com/user/ViolentNeurosis
Ogg for samples? I personally have never seen nor used any...... just thinking about mp3 imports for samples for a music project just gives me the creeps.... but that's just me...
Tested on Kit Kat. works great! this makes my day. With this and CausticMeta Caustic3 is even more powerful. I wish I could thank the dev of this app. He is my hero (after Rej of course)
As I said, licensing MP3 costs money (even just for decoding), way too much for what it brings to the app.
Some apps risk it and offer mp3 support anyway, but that's not something I'm willing to chance with Caustic.
To be honest I wasn't sure if implementing an MP3 decoder alone would cost the same.
VIOLENT NEUROSIS (YouTube) ...https://www.youtube.com/user/ViolentNeurosis
It's about half price, still way too high for what I get from it.
By the way, I didn't think FLAC was compressed...
VIOLENT NEUROSIS (YouTube) ...https://www.youtube.com/user/ViolentNeurosis
It's compressed, but it's loss-less. (like ZIP)
I just discovered a an app on the playstore called recforge pro. Its pretty sweet and not to expensive for full features.

I use one called Media Converter for Android if I have to... Do not like to use mp3 if it is possible plus that the converters I tried all seem to color the sound too much in one way or another. Which drives me crazy as sometimes I need to upload sound files to my website and if I upload .wav files it do not want to play correctly for some people.
This is the time the night and the year
I agree with "musical android" the app Media Converter on the Google Play Store is actually the only converter I've ever used and has some very decent conversion from -> to support.
Nothing but a creative experimentalist with a website at http://emjmee.x10.mx/ who ditched FL Studio Mobile for the music maker that slays all other music makers, Caustic user since the 23rd April 2014.
I've went two the dark side and back!! cause i left something. Still ain't found it yet.
Thank u for this app but if i use android transfer on device. And i can't transfer or exchange Unix files from one device two be used on Mac. It's ok. Cause win i plug the second device after now using both the front ports of use USB the device caustic is used on. Is now transferable two Mac. I'm not so sure what os of lion it is of the free public library studio it is. But i will check some time two-day and give a headz-up. Cause i just open the files in apple pro logic x. And garageband cause it had two read the file off my desktop. ((( as a exported wav. File ))) then it can reconvert two mp3 no problem.
What a "lucky" find!
Thanks! Worked like a charm.
I downloaded the APK for mp3Convert and got it loaded onto my nexus. Did a test conversion but have no idea where the mp3 went. Can some one let me know the file path of where they should end up?
DF
It in the export folder! Go to caustic/song/export.
Still doesnt show up for me there. I decided to go with mediaconverter instead and its allowing me to choose destination folder without issue.
DF
Is there any sonic advantage in creating mp3s from 24 or 32 bit wavs? If so then does anyone know of an android based converter that can handle them?
My Soundcloud profile is _dredge_
mediaconverter :)
Thanks!
I've been using a Media Converter (I think that's what it's called) that I picked up to convert downloaded .mkv video to .mp4 that I can actually watch. It's kind of an all-in-one transcoder so I also use it to convert .wav to .mp3. The only thing I don't like about it, is that the "quality" settings are just descriptors without any hard numbers on what bitrate the file is being encoded at. So I don't know if the "#2" setting that I've been using is 360, 256, 192, or what.
It's okay; we have work-arounds.
Recforge does a faster conversion and you can crop the song and only take a piece of it and you can convert from a.Video to mp3 flac wav other stuff too
usually i use MediaConverter app. its easily convert anyting files, example from wav to flac/ogg/or mp3..
create.
Hey guys if you want to convert your music from Caustic, you can also use this application named Media Converter by antvplayer. You can download it on Google Play.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AndroidA.MediaConverte...
Yeah, if you look upthread you'll see that I and another user here have posted about that app almost a month ago.
But you're first to put a link to it in the Play store, so thank you for that (on behalf of those not yet using it).
[EDIT] Actually looking even farther upthread, it was first mentioned here in mid-April.
Wow so useful! Haven't tried it yet.
What luck that you found this, rej
Also thank you for being active here unlike some other forums, your contact with your fans is amazing and I learned loads from your tutorials!
(off topic: steps I recognize you from SC forums?)
I make creative EDM utilising Caustic and many other Daws. See for yourself on my SoundCloud, you may like it :) https://soundcloud.com/xandyaudio thanks!
Thanks, Rej
Great! I can now make myhigh quality was into messes of white noise! I'm so pleased!
Well not really lol.
Doesn't work well but oh well, it was just a nice things have mp3 files instead of wav, but no problem.
Nice try anyway :)

Oops, sorry. It was an issue with reading 24bit WAVs, which has been fixed. New version can be downloaded from the same link in original post.
I love it when an app is updated based on a problem cited on the forum for another completely unrelated app.
huh? he was talking about the app in the original post.
I thought the whole premise here was that we were being all "tounge-in-cheek" about "finding" this app in order to "work around" the mp3 licensing payment "thing".
If I could use more quotation marks, I would.
Oh, yeah, sorry I didn't get your meaning. Carry on.
I like the ogg format. That said, how is it that free, open-source programs like Audacity and "WAV to MP3" get away with putting in an encoder (obviously they're not paying for it). Isn't the lame encoder open-source also? (Don't know that much about it.)
Wow, I like this app a lot! Nice simple UI, and it has a nice simple premise which it executes with no issues! I wonder who the developer of this amazing app is so I can give them thanks!
;)
If youre super desprate like me you download fl studios and load your song as a sample
https://soundcloud.com/btpbackup/sets/they-call-me-dj-btp
Audacity DOESN'T include an encoder; you have to get one separately and tell Audacity where to find it.
Thanks for this as well.
StePh is right, it's a 3rd party plug-in, that just happens to work and fit well with Audacity. However, I've tested this app here, and it functions well, and it does not thrive on extracting your personal data from your phone..... I greatly appreciate devs that respect that, and offer their goods and services to make the world a slightly better musical place.
