[BUG] Caustic tempo not compatible with other DAW,s

Hi Rej

When I made ”Sparkling Autumn” I wanted to chop the guitar and import it to caustic but I couldn’t match the tempo between Caustic and my main Wav-editor (Audition). What I wanted to do was simply (in Audition) to set the tempo, set the time-view to measures and then simply split the file between each measure. But the splits did not line up as I imagined they would, I thought this was an issue with Audition’s timing so I didn’t think much about it.

But yesterday I had a little chat with one of my friends at SoundCloud, he’s not a caustic user but he does some collabs with caustic people. I was curious about his workflow, and he told me that he work with stems exported from caustic and that he needed a midi-file too because of tempo issues. That reminded me of my own experience and thought I should bring it up.

So it seems like caustic has it’s own definition of BPM slightly different from other DAW’s. It’s not a big deal, most people will probably not hear the difference but when it comes to crossplatform collaborations this will be quite noticeable or even an obstacle.

Hope there’s an easy fix for this, woulden’t want you to rewrite your timing routine entirely. If there’s to much work you better leave it as is, It’s working for at least 99.99 % of the users

I don't know, the calculation

I don't know, the calculation is pretty simple. My unit of measurment is the sample (1/44100) and how many are in a measure. The only thing I don't do is keep fractions of samples (this is what caused the missing notes bugs of the past) so I guess that could put me off by a few microseconds after a few minutes running... maybe that's what he's seeing. Like you say, it's for the 0.01% of users, no one has brought it up before. It's a huge thing to change and honestly I don't think it's worth the time and risk.

Hmm, this surprises me

Hmm, this surprises me because the first few songs I did in Caustic were exported (both as midi and single steams) and imported into logic with the tempo set accordingly and there were no issues between the steams and midi. But if something was changed due to the missing note bug,  I recently did a test with a File of James and the tempo was correct in logic.

Strange, I need to

Strange, I need to investigate this further. It should not be a high-priority at Rej's end, but I think this type of cross-platform Collabs will be more common in the future as Caustic gain it's foothold in the scene.

Agreed Pan65. If you are up

Agreed Pan65. If you are up for it, & when I've got some time (middle of next month) let's make a point of doing some tests outside of the forum and post results here. Do you know what daw your SC friend uses?

the fractional portion

the fractional portion depends on the tempo. For example if you're running at 120 bpm, the fraction will be 0 so it will be spot on.
