In the pcmsynth if you select LPF it immediately sounds brighter, and if you want more just carefully add resonance to a fully open filter, not quite an exciter but a good way to get brighter samples without using eq.
A way to brighten samples without eq
That is true.... I dont know why it happens, but there is a noticeable boost 5-10khz range..... You may actually have to cut mixer high EQ approx -2 db to compensate, depending on the recorded content playing in the PCMSynth.....
I have used this trick many times for some things...
Brilliant for brightening up old Breakbeats,I used it to bring out the hihats, I learnt it off Pete Parsons from Monroe productions, engineered and mixed the Lucky Spin Recordings in the 90's,I was like reaching for a parametric eq and he stopped me and showed me that trick.
So this is not unique to Caustic's filters then? I almost always end up going and fiddling w/ the filters instead of using an EQ insert. Seems like between that and the EQ on the desk, I can where I need to be nine times out of ten.

No, we were using hardware samplers like the Akai S1000 at the time.I work the same way Frank, between the filters and eq I can get what I want.
It's a quirk in Caustic when you engage a filter type in the synths..... its quirky but liveable, and like Steve said earlier has unique properties to enhancing some sounds in a different way than the HighEQ in the MainMixer does.
I remember rej saying that the filters couldn't be completely transparent due to some limitation though I don't remember exactly why

Nice!
The exact opposite happens with the insert filter effect set to lowpass. Even with 0 cutoff, there is some high cut at about 10k. This quite a lot of the time dampens the hiss of hats and blunts the edges of saw leads. So to compensate, you can use the highshelf just like the lowpass, but the gain parameter gives you the ability to remove the defect of using a lowpass by centering it (Almost acts like a wetness).
or cut the Mixer High EQ about -2dB..... or lower the VCF CutOff to compensate... Let your ears do tthe talking.... haha did I just say that
It's very common to use an LPF selfresonating to excite the hifrequencies of a signal. It's just a matter of logic, the resonance enhances the frecuencies at the cutoff but with a given bandwidth. At frequencies over 10k, the bandwidth use to be about 2k-5k depending on the filter design
Yeah, I'm me!
