That's pretty damn good for a first Caustic track man. I like the subtle change in the lead synth around 1:56 and the breakdown at about 3:05 is awesome. It does have an 80's goth/ synthpop vibe. How is it that so many people here are doing such good work on their first try?! When I first started using Caustic a few yrs ago my production quality was far more amateurish. I don't really have any criticism because it's great as it is, but one suggestion that might liven it up would be to play around with automating the filters & effects more to bring out some drama. Dialing in a static flanger on the drums during a break or adding some parametric EQ motion to the pad synths along with automated filters and/ or oscillators can turn a Ford into a Ferrari
Yeah Andy bones you are correct.... Not only people are doing good work on there first try but the number of tracks that has been produced or are being produced has suddenly increased in this month or so!!!
@i_nexus Really amazing work for a first track in Caustic! Perfect track in my opinion!!! The part from around 3.20 is superb!!!!Thanks for sharing!!!
I'm definitely seeing this trend. Maybe it can be chalked up to this- Caustic 3 is such an amazing tool and is light years beyond the capabilities of the original Caustic 1 I'd worked with. Still, when I go back and listen to my very first C1 tracks I just scoff at my careless automation goofs, overuse of the chorus effect, nonsensical beat structure and general "Mortal Kombat" techno cheesiness (plus they were my first real attempts at creating whole works of music on anything)
Basically, i_nexus & many others: you're doing great work right out of the gate.
really good track for your first try...i might add some eq boost in the mid range..and some compression on the drums to give them some punch...maybe some automation like andy suggested...but overall its pretty cool.
I thought I'd replied earlier but clearly whatever I did wasn't correct. Let's have another go.
Thank you, everyone, for such a positive reception :) I was half expecting to get flamed into dust for trespassing on genres about which I know nothing but your encouragement does this community a great deal of credit. Thank you, also, for your helpful suggestions for improvements. @Andy Bones - I agree that some dynamic FX/filtering would lift the front half. I'm a bit timid with that sort of thing atm. @James - well spotted re. drums: have fixed that; wasn't *consciously* thinking of Visage but you're right; on reflection there's also more than a passing similarity to the arpeggiated synth on Japan's 'Quiet Life' as well.
So I spent the whole evening working on a new mix taking all this and more into account. Got it where I wanted it. Printed it, then AB'd it with the rough from yesterday. Naturally, I preferred the rough mix. So I went back to that and just tidied up a bit and did a few minor tweaks. Attached if anyone wants to hear.
Also attached is the .caustic file in case anyone else fancies a go.
I just listened side-by-side & I can hear some of the touch-ups you've added. Well done- there's a bit of 80's goth DNA in me & I definitely dig the atmosphere here.
This forum is populated with other people just like yourself who want to experiment with not just music genre's they're familiar with but stuff outside their comfort zone too so you should never be afraid of "trespassing" into another genre- Though I understand your concern seeing how lame & elitist some people can behave about such things (not here, just in general). Fortunately there seems to be a universal attitude of maturity & mutual creative encouragement in these boards.
I just d/l'd the .caustic file & will play around with it, see what happens
Caustic 3 is jaw-droppingly good. I cannot believe (a) how great it sounds; (b) how little I paid for it; and (c) how much fun I am having :) The user end is beautifully thought-out and the synth models really are excellent. When I discovered that you can also automate pretty much everything I felt compelled to punch myself in the face because life has no right to be that good.

I had to listen when I saw the tag 'Gothic Trance', cool stuff. Really well put together, the bassline has shades of 'Fade to Grey' by Visage.
There's a whole Cybergoth scene out there btw - essentially Goth meets Trance, Techno and Industrial.
Tips - check the width settings on the BB, the drums sound panned left and I suspect this is because width is off centre a notch.

Really nice first track, lots of movement and great sounds. Keep'em coming.

Great Track. love the mellotron-ish strings. Is it a reference to Roy Batty's final words in Blade Runner? Bonus points awarded!
That's sweet dude.

nice....
Thanks! Yes - Blade Runner has got to be my all-time favourite film.

If I could 'Like' or '+1' Andy's entire 2nd paragraph above, I would. Totally agree. The folks around here are awesome.
