'Gentle Movements', a mobile production ;)

Caustic Song file (optional):

Until now I've made all my tracks on my tablet at home, normally lying on the sofa, sometimes with my midi keyboard.

About 6 weeks ago I bought a new Smartphone (Motorola Moto G) that actually runs Caustic 3 so here's the first track that I've written and recorded out and about - traveling to work and back and the occasional stolen moment or two at my desk as a break from spreadsheets.

It's a simple thing with maybe a slightly melancholy and gentle vibe - for something made on the move there's a distinct lack of movement laugh

The final mix was done on my tablet at home though  but all I did was tweak a few volume, EQ and compressor settings.

*edit - 'http://www.singlecellsoftware.com/node/4099' was a semi-mobile track, this is the first that was largely mobile from beginning to end though*

Incredible what you can do with a mobile phone these days :D  This is really nice, I like the melancholy vibe.

Thanks - it's feels simple

Thanks - it's feels simple but complete - I like it a lot more than some of my complex attempts, You can tell from the file how simple the underlying structure really is blush

Skarabass? Yeah, maybe there's kind of an e-bow feel with that preset here - I must have swapped that patch 10 times, and fiddled around with the Pitch, LFO, EQ, FX and filters before getting a sound that fitted. I think its the LFO rate that gives it that e-bow feel and makes it fit so well.

All of Skarabee's presets are essential, imo.

A very clean and fresh

A very clean and fresh sounding track James. I can't imagine using Caustic on anything smaller than my Nexus 7's 7 inch screen, but it's a testament to Rej's program design that it's still just as functional on a smartphone display

Incidentally I've recently purchased the HDMI cable for my tablet, and seeing Caustic running in 1080p on my 40" LCD TV was particularly impressive - I just wanted to reach out to touch the TV screen to alter the knobs and slider positions though(!)

really cool track...not your usual style. for some reason it reminds me of music you might hear during a circus acrobatic or contortionist performance...a little like they do in some cirque du soleil performances, but differnt.

Tbh Dan, I really struggle

Tbh Dan, I really struggle with C3 even on a hi res mobile screen. I love my N7 but I am seriously holding hopes that the next gen N10 will arrive someday, but yeah, C3 works like a dream as a truly mobile app. Although it's pretty susceptible to the bounce of a bus if you're trying to adjust eq, pan, FX settings. It's just cool switching from Smartphone to tablet via drop box, and far less obvious at work when I take a break :)

Thanks Dan, and thanks again

Thanks Dan, and thanks again for your awesome mix of 'Pitch Instability', probably going to make a DL EP with yours and Gajoga's mixes.
I think I'm growing a little more confident about just making music, hopefully that means I'll continue to expand my style more too :)

My best mate has the N10, and

My best mate has the N10, and whilst it would be amazing for Caustic, I just love the fact that my N7 fits into the inside pocket of my jacket too much, to consider a larger device!
