Hey at least you didn't go to the hospital and just leave everyone wondering what the hell happened with your track like that skinny cracker with the glasses. It'll be worth the wait.
Alright... This was the sort of stimulation I was looking for when I mentioned using only BeatBoxes or Modulars. It was enough challenge to have to go with one or the other, let alone the wiring process of the Modular, once I settled on it. I started with a BeatBox, changed my mind... Finished this part, left it alone for a day and listened to it with fresh ears...
Also, the genre here is very different for me. I didn't notice before but CR's still seems odd to me... Like it loses sync but resyncs when it needs to.
I was thinking that next collaboration, we could get assigned a synthesizer (ranmdomly pulled out of a hat by C. R.) as our turn comes up. You could limit say, the number of 8 bits or pads that the song could have in total, so that we don't have 7 of those; perhaps even set up the "hat" with a certain amount of each synth to guarantee a good balance of sound. But this would force us as artists not just to accompany others' tracks, but to write a part also based on what synth we're forced to use. Or each person could also have the choice to use a beatbox instead of the synth randomly drawn for them. I think it would give us something totally fresh, and would - as you previously said about number 4 - "sharpen our skills".
cool idea, I do like the challenge of themes for us to work around, and I have a possible idea for another theme. all pcmsynths! I could see that getting pretty wild, depending on how far into resampling the warriors go.
We could assume the synths are numbered in the order they appear for selection in caustic:
Subsynth
PCMSynth
Bassline
Beatbox
PadSynth
8-Bit Synth
Modular
Organ
Vocoder
FM Synth
KS Synth
Before each person starts, I use something like the random # generator over at https://www.random.org/ tell it to give me a number between 1 - 11, and then report back with what the next person's machine will be.
I think its a cool idea. Not sure about the Beatbox fallback though, because with that option looming in the background, one might not take a hard look at what they could do with whatever synth they got. I know if I got, let's say 'Organ', the Beatbox fallback might look pretty attractive. But then I might miss the chance to spend some 'quality time' with the Organ synth. However, I'll defer to the community's wishes on the Beatbox fallback idea. It's still gotta be fun. :-)
Perhaps another version of that could be all Beatboxes, but people can load whatever samples they want into them. We would be challenged to get a 3-4 minute track out of a setup like that.
I think doing a round with just BeatBoxes would work as well since we can automate tuning of each sample... It would be pretty raw since there are no filters, no lfo, etc... And I mean raw in the literal sense, no slang.
maybe instead of a beatbox fallback, everyone gets a second roll if they want, and can choose between those options. if of course you get two organs... congratulations? I jest. free reroll!
That gave me an idea: What if Rej could come up with a new insert effect that looks at another channel, and replicates the insert effects on that channel, and then you essentially get 2 insert effects in 1 slot for your channel. Kinda like machine input on the modular, but it would be an insert effect with effect input. Who knows? Maybe he can. maybe he can't. I don't know how the software routes the audio signal.
that is a crazy awesome idea. I could see it making for HUGE dynamic morphing builds and risers, especially if you could set the channel selection to a channel that already had the effect cloning effect.. I have doubts that its possible though, but I am no programmer.
I'm cool with everyone being assigned a random machine, and cool with a BB only version too.
There are so many variants - if you wanted an 'Acid' type track you could say 2 BB's and 12 Basslines,
For an ambient piece you could specify no BB's...
For a bigger challenge you could say Padsynth and FM Synth only - great synths but hard to use on their own.
Caustic Replay - I think if Rej is considering some FX added at machine level , maybe by a side swipe, so the FX become part of the patch but watch this space ....
When I loaded up the file, I immediately heard BadIckaruzz's machine (#8). It sounds like a faint metronome, or a constant echo. Didn't hit 'play' or anything. Does anyone else notice this? Is it a bug, or a modular nuance?
****Updated****
Hooked up an oscilloscope and found its coming from the Mini LFO on the left, 3rd row down. I can't hear it affecting the track really, but I guess it's not a software bug.
yeah i forgot to mention that i heard that. there's also noise coming from your machine, although it's almost imperceptible. doesn't even show up on any of the meters.
for BI's machine, the sound's coming from the low pass filter to input 2 mixer patch. taking off that patch doesn't seem to cause any difference in the sound of the patterns.
Hello everyone, i downloaded the last file to disocover the work in progress, but my Caustic says my version is out of date :-(
I saw you're all working on beta 3.1, but where can i have it ?
Somebody say my name?

If the majority wishes, I can redo my part after Caustic Warrior #14 completes their part.
I was hoping it would blend into the background by this point, but it seems as though it's not working out that way.
Let me know what you all think.

I like all the ideas mentioned so far, but the beatbox version... I see myself taking the three days just to decide what insert effect to use.
maybe instead of a beatbox fallback, everyone gets a second roll if they want, and can choose between those options. if of course you get two organs... congratulations? I jest. free reroll!
What if we do one sometime with just Beatboxes, and everyone has to put together their own kit (including creating all the samples)?
That could go places nobody has gone before, at least in collaboration land....

+1for the Random Machines idea but I agree with CR, no Beatbox fallback.
Also really like the Beatbox only idea where everyone creates their own samples.

all the ideas sound amazing to me :)
