hey guys i've been using caustic for a while now, but i haven't posted before.
first of all massive thanks to rej and all the guys working hard making new presets and content packs, caustic 3 is literally the best thing ive ever held in my hand! and secondly im very proud to show off what i've been busy working on.
its kinda a sound track to an 80's style sci fi movie, i will warn you though its 25 mins long and one big mix lol.
well i hope you enjoy it everyone and any feed back is very much appreciated this is the first time ive ever done anything like this.
Very cool, it starts off epic and doesn't let go. The big reverb toms really add to the atmosphere. Right away I love the synth sound you have going at 0:33.
I would have liked the rain to fade more slowly at 3:27.
I'm only 9 minutes in and have to leave to pick up my son at daycare so I'll give it a proper listen all the way through tonight when everyone's asleep. I get the feeling the sci-fans here (there are a few) will love this.
I'm curious, is this from one .caustic project or did you piece it together from a number of exported works?
ok so i listened to the whole thing, its so long i should have taken notes for the parts i wanted to comment on....but overall its really very good...epic for sure,....i agree with rej the rain at 3:27 should fadeout slower....there are some really cool sounds and the mix is great for most of the track...there is one part that seems to distort some...im not sure if its clipping distortion or intentional.
impressive work! Make me wanna watch the movie. I like how you declined the main theme, keeping it in the same universe. Really, it could have been a 80's sci-fi movie track (and I've seen a lot), exactly in the spirit/mix/sound of these times.
I also noticed some distortion, but after all, it make it sound like an old VHS tape from this era...
This is awesome balls :)
Really great feel to it, any chance you can make the movie? :) And how big is the file?!
Agree about the rain ending early, apart from that possibly the best thing i've heard on Caustic. What have you done musically before this?
https://soundcloud.com/barking_mad
wow thanks guys, your comments mean alot! its a little overwhelming lol. the rain fading i discovered was an issue with two tracks not fading correctly i've just fixed that, the distortion though i didn't notice,it was super late when i had my final listen through.any idea as to the time?
its made up from 8 different exported tracks in total and put together in audacity so i'm not sure of the collective file size,i could upload each track but where i made them all to go with each other some have elongated endings for mixing purposes, when converted to mp3 they are surprisingly small in size though. musical wise i've done nothing major, i played guitar for a while nothing noteworthy a few solos and chords that kinda thing, then i got a new phone and was browsing the app store and found caustic 2 and i got hooked. i've really got no musical experience other then listening to it, i'm just very creative,i draw a lot too not so much lately coz of working on this but i had a little revival to draw the album cover.
its caustic it just grabbed me and didnt let go till it had had its way with me, i've a feeling it isn't done yet either.
i just checked the file sizes, in order they are
1): 38mb 2): 92mb 3): 72mb 4): 99mb 5): 36mb 6): 45mb 7): 18mb 8): 5mb
crazy how the longest two are tiny compared to the others.

i hear distortion on the track at around 18:20...it seems to peak at 18:35-ish and lasts for several seconds during that part....btw this section is one of my favorite parts of the track.
Excellent. If your first track is this good i cant wait to hear some more. Kindly assist! :)

Yes. What a work you have created here! I wonder if anyone is still making 80's sci-fi- this is ready-made!
What does 2010's music sci-fi *sound* like?
https://soundcloud.com/barking_mad
thank you all for the kind comments! its all dubstep nowa days in sci fi or big orchestral numbers, dont get me wrong they can suit the genre, but for me nothing beats the sound of a synth in sci fi. i wish i could make the movie, even animated like interstellar 5555, would be amazing. maybe finally releasing this will give me the push i need to expand the albums universe to a more visual medium.

this is epic, but i wont have full opinions til i get free time to finish...my first impression, however, is: amazing.
¿que onda, pachuco?
Sounds great. Something about the sound of the first note made me hit like right away and I was right to do so.

How long did it take you to write?
https://soundcloud.com/barking_mad
In total around six maybe seven months, but thats with a lot of time in between I started it on caustic 2 and when I heard about 3 I waited coz I knew id be able to do so much more with it, glad I did too those extra machines were very needed! Not to say it was a bump free ride.i did.suffer several crashes almost all ro do with the autosave currupting, but apparently this is common on xperia's, im very tempted to buy a.midi controller but wasnt sure what one to get for.maximum caustic compatability

Epic build-up around 0:30....really, really cool track. I can picture this being a soundtrack to an MA-rated Anime or something.

Fantastic track. I love a track that is unpredictable, and to achieve this for 25 minutes is quite some feat!
Look forward to more stuff from you dude.
Very impressive, I really like how you glue those themes together. I don't think I have enough patience to take on a epic project like this, however I always had this dream that I would one day make a song ala Oldfield's B side's ;). Your technique of pasting track together might just be the way to go, maybe I should give it a go after all.
Any chance of sharing the caustic files? I'd be especially interested In the first with the reverse sounding synth and arpeggios.
Id like to see a couple too - bear in mind the limit is 80mb!
I want to hear the next piece though. Get a move on Mr Thaddeus, i cant wait 6 months!

I don't think there's anything else I've heard from my fellow causticians that can top this in scope, or man-hours. What a mother-*&^%$...

Thanks Thaddeus, was interesting to look at those and see what you did. As always my reaction is "Easier when i know how" - without understating your skill! :)

your most welcome, its all in the ears mainly, if it sounds good go with it, don't let rules holds you back! i will admit a few times i accidently stumbled upon stuff, as i have no idea how to work most of the features within caustic, im still a total novice at it. hopefully soon ill figure everything out and see what comes out then.

What does 2010's music sci-fi *sound* like?
DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince
WOW! A bunch of my favorite movies are 80s Sci-Fi. I always loved the synth soundtracks. I just watched Escape from New York again recently, that has some good synth. But you my friend are in the Blade Runner territory. That's the highest 80s sci-fi movie sound track complement I can give.
you just put a massive smile on my face my friend, blade runner is my all time favourite movie, but you could probably tell that from my music lol
https://thaddeusgrim.bandcamp.com/releases
Ok ok, this is lovely and all but you have part deux to make! Move along :-)
https://soundcloud.com/barking_mad
This is amazing. It blows my mind to hear the stuff people post here, and this is officially the most mind-blowing I've heard.
You mention 80s sci-fi, which I sense, but I'm also reminded of Daft Punk's soundtrack to Tron:Legacy.
Lol im working on it right now, it'll be more moody than the last one was really wanna put some lyrics down to further expand on the story but my vocals are questionable at best lol, also I need some guitar in there for sure, and im working on the story boards for the graphic novel so im very busy with this project in some form or other i also have a friend asking me to expand his books universe with a full 16 track album AND I have a few random tracks not associated with neons.story.
https://thaddeusgrim.bandcamp.com/releases
Busy man!
That reminds me, the other day when I was listening to this I was thinking that it would be nice to have the music set in time to non-animated illustrations. As if you were reading a graphic novel with a soundtrack. Has this been done already, by someone, somewhere?
https://soundcloud.com/barking_mad
Great sound and great mix :D
I'm a fan. I eagerly await the next installment. You also inspired me to do my own soundtrack. Check out Journey to Goldielock's planet.
This is incredible, really captures the era perfectly. An amazing achievement, makes me want to go and watch some 80s sci-fi right now!

Had to post it on Musical Android!
Looking forward to hear some more.
This is the time the night and the year
This track is wicked cool! And to think it all comes from a cell phone.... Always amazes me!
