Hello everyone, this is my attempt at an 80's type tune, following advice I got from you guys on making drums more vibrant and massive, seems to be working, also if anyone has an idea of a machine or preset to do an electric guitar solo let me know, I've used a bassline with a distortion effect before and sounds pretty good. Let me know what you think, comments and tips welcome
You Only Live Eleven
nice melodic track,..there is a distrotion guitar pcm preset in the presets section that sounds pretty good, ive used it on a couple songs on my soundcloud page...my songs subatomic and rain have it as the lead.
Nice tune, really like the melody. For 80's tunes there are mainly two ways to go,either minimalistic almost naked electronic ala depeche mode among others or big bombastic with fat pads and really wet drums. In the later case the snare is so wet it seems to leave the atmosphere, take a few turns around the moon before it gets back and hit your ears :D. Tell me if you want some references to listen to.
About guitar solos I use simple waveforms most of the time. For a les Paul neck position I think a squarewave works best, with some lowpass filter and distortion you get some really nice results. Sawtooth will give you a little more edge to the sound. You can also experiment with the cabinet simulator, and some delay on top of that will make your guitar solos bloom. The biggest impact on the sound however is how you play it, feel free to check out my caustic files posted in the show and tell forum. If you want you can use my presets or even re-use my patterns if that would help :)
@danjdob that guitar sounds amazing I already got a bunch of presets from here maybe I already have and dont even remember haha thanks and @pan65 I agree with the squarewave Im definitely gonna check out your files thank man

Great track - love the violin type sound in the intro. Sounds as much like electronic prog rock as 80's - although the synths used do have that retro 80's feel.
