Distant Memory - anyone fancy doing a remix?

Caustic Song file (optional):

This is one of my favourite tracks of mine. I've recreated it on pretty much every set up I've had and is currently causticy.

Just felt its one that might benefit from a fresh outlook.

I think the caustic file is a slightly newer version than the SoundCloud so might have had a couple of eq tweaks to clean it up a bit.

The drum kit is one of Jason's excellent pocket pro kits so if you decide to hoover it off the file then make a determined effort to buy at least one of his excellent packs.

So... Over to you guys! Really interested in what you might do with it.

I usually like the electro

I usually like the electro-rock vibe, but this one said to me that it needed an all-out electronica thing going on, so I gave it a whirl.  It feels too much like a Daftpunk Tron Legacy ripoff now that I'm into it, but I might keep at it, just because I like how it feels, it has been a blast to work on, and I really like the structure you built.  I want to keep trimming away at the sounds a little, and I feel some places that would work great with some automation, but I thought I would put up a rough sketch.

Update:  I polished off the mix I started.  I think I pulled out the same two tracks Rob did out of his remix.  I made some room for sounds that seemed to be getting burried by the onslaught of sound, yet tried to keep the GRRRRAHHH passionate feeling it had.  I thus named this the Passion Remembered bondmix.

Thanks Rob for the opportunity.  laugh

The idea of going more

The idea of going more electronic is good. I like what you've done so far but I think it needs to be more of a departure. I had a go myself with that idea in mind, I've never remixed one of my own tracks...

Removed two tracks, changed the drums, slowed it down...

The result...

That is what I thought Nirmal

That is what I thought Nirmal.  The best thing to do to show of your own song is to create a new thread under Show and Tell, and share your song there.  One of the best ways to do that is to export your song from Caustic as a wav file, and upload it to Soundcloud if you have an account, but just sharing  your Caustic file is fine too, especially if you are looking for help, like you said.

Really good, similar to the original, and yet different.  With it slower as it is, and shorter, I am wondering if you finished this, or are wanting someone to yet bounce off it.  If I was going to add to it, lyrics are begging to be added.

Its finished in as much as any of my tunes are finished!

If you want to remix this one then do. Its virtually the same caustic file though. I've not changed any of the patterns aside from the drums. Everything else is the same, just in a different order!

Maybe I'm expecting too much

Maybe I'm expecting too much but swapping the presets out gives it a slightly different vibe. But you're using exactly the same arrangement and drum beat which I think stifles what could be done with it.

When you found your method of

When you found your method of departure, and brought that to the station Icompleted it) I figured there wasn't much use in looking for a structural revamp on my end.  I liked the original structure, thought it fit my sound, so I opened the soundscape up and brought it to the core of what you had down to start with.  I guess to put it another way, I liked the burning passion feel of the old structure, and wanted to flush that out.  The departure is great from it's own perspective, but has more of a looking back and steeping yourself in gloom feel to me, which has a lot of it's own merit.

If I had time, I would take your departure and further develope that structure, but honestly I have a structure of my own that I have that part of my brain tied up with.  LIke I said, I think it needs lyrics, and the structural changes I would make would be to open up room for verse and chorus .... and what really opened that up for me was your use of the "forget me not" line.

Maybe if I get enough time to get my current project completed, I'll come back to this.

Updated the drums a bit on

Updated the drums a bit on the SoundCloud version of my remix and tweaked the eq to make it less boomy. Sounds pretty sweet now (even though I say do myself!)

Did my usual high tech mastering technique of playing the track on a selection of crap stereos (including the car!)

Why is it the car is always

Why is it the car is always so different to every other crap stereo/headphone/sound system?  I had to deal with this yesterday with the new one I'm working on.

Cars are funny things...

Cars are funny things... Offset stereo, weird angles bouncing sound all over the place. Car stereos tend to have boomy bass and not a lot of middle, so you need to wind the bass down to expose the midriff of your track.

Thanks, Glad you like it. I Really liked your original. I wanted to keep the soul of your original and just make it bounce a little. I added the caustic file before I did any EQing to it.

Can't remember where the piano preset is from. It was a demo pack that had piano bold and a couple of others in it.
