'Tribal Repercussion' - stomping, tribal acid techno

Caustic Song file (optional):

I asked Rej to delete my last entry in 'Show and Tell' but I think this one came out pretty well.

It's inspired by, and based around, a Modular patch called Shine On that was created by Skarabee for his cover of 'Shine on You Crazy Diamond' by Pink Floyd.

It's also inspired by a series of techno 12" called 'Planet of Drums'.

This is a pounding, tribal acid track with 3 Beatboxes, 2 Basslines, 1 FM Synth, 1 Modular and 1 Modular machine input.

It's been kicking around in my WiP folder for 4 or 5 months and gives me some confidence that going back to older stems with a fresh pair of ears can be as creative as a fresh tune.

The file's up there if anyone wants to have a play, and as always I welcome all comments, criticisms etc smiley

Thanks Skynexia smiley I'm pretty happy with this one, it has a flow, energy and euphoria. It's been kicking around for months but I suddenly saw a direction to take it in a few days ago.

i absolutely love the percussion...amazing,.. very aggressive....im not however in love with the acid synths as much...they are more of a distraction to my ear...i would have chosen darker brooding synth lines to counter the tribal rhythms....but thats me.....maybe ill play with the track some so you can see what i mean.....regardless a really good track overall.

Ha ha laugh Glad you enjoyed the drums Dan - I know the 303's are OTT but (as you probably know by now) it's a sound I really, really love. Listen to the YouTube link I posted further up in this thread and you can see the kind of tracks that I take inspiration from. My 303's are pretty restrained (only because I can't get them to sound gnarly enough).

It's probably a good one to remix too - the feel would be completely different without the 303's, looking forward to a different interpretation smiley

Interesting - the vibe hovers somewhere between prog, hip hop and film music. It sounds like (un)easy listening smiley

Very, very good. Creative use

Very, very good. Creative use of my source material - sounds very different but there's still a common thread.

More of a progressive house / trance mix but keeping that tribal vibe alive.

There are still options if you want to take it somewhere else different too - if you raise the bpm higher (140 - 145 bpm) and emphasise the spooky modular lead and subsynths then you'd have more of a moody and rhythmic take on goa / psy vibes.

Excellent work - feel free to post it on your SC if you want to, please credit me or link to my original though smiley

Hi James,I'm glad you like it

Hi James,I'm glad you like it. You are right about the prog house vibe,as tribal house is a part of Progressive and lives somewhere around 128-135bpm(see Digweed,Creamer &K).About raising the bpm to 140-145,I'm not totally comfortable producing psytrance, goa trance,as I said,Tribal House is my love.Instead,I would like to take it in a different direction, and turn it into a chillout track if I can,but is hard. What do you say?
About posting this on SC I will post it as James-Tribal Repercussion(John DGR Tribal Mix). Is that ok with you?

Awesome percussion on this

Awesome percussion on this one James, great rhythm and synthwork - the screaming 303's are definitely 'your sound'!

I'll have to check out your caustic file when I get a chance, to peek at the 'inner workings'

Really good composition James.

To me it points towards Juno Reactor influences, which is always a good thing wink

Glad you enjoyed it - the only thing I've heard by Juno Reactor is their debut LP Transmissions from 1993 on Novamute, I remember enjoying it, think I saw them live in 1993 or 1994 too.

NovaMute were a seriously cool label.

I like it... but the tribal

I like it... but the tribal nature... I think needs a much more distinctive snare more clacky to give that taka-taka-tak-tak sound.

Might have to have a play doing a drum only track and see what happens.

half of my inspiration comes

half of my inspiration comes from happy accidents or random thoughts - not sure whether it would be as successful if I deliberately set out to make another tribal style track.

I'll give it a go though just to see smiley

Hi James,I tried for the past

Hi James,I tried for the past 3 hours to upload your remix to soundcloud, but for some reason, soundcloud seems to hate me lately.:/
First I couldn't post a description,then when I finally managed it wouldn't play,so I had to delete it.
The good news is my phone escaped from being thrown through the window.:)
Anyway, what I want to say is,if you want, you have the .caustic file I made, you can export it and post it on your soundcloud page, but only if you want. :)
Also if it doesn't bother you,you can post on the description my SoundCloud page http://soundcloud.com/john-dgr
....thanks! :)
Ohh I almost forgot...I just started working on a chillout mix for your track.
Maybe when I finish it,soundcloud won't be hating me anymore. :P
That's all for now,have a nice day. :)
