Since I love giving criticism

Since I love giving criticism, actually I need to, is there something wrong with some cymbals half way through the song? They sound off time, like the delay is messed up on the channel.

... You know I'm kidding about the criticism part.

Aside from the cymbals, nice galaxy spinning feeling to the song jason, that is what trance is all about.

Trance definitely gets a bad rap these days but, for those that were around when the original came out, a lot of music these days IS trance but they call it some other faddy word. Trance is the roots, just like classical is the roots to blues and blues is the roots of rock.

Nope nothing wrong with the

Nope nothing wrong with the cymbals. The ride is a double sixteenth note tap from two different hits, and the hats were grooved the way they were to achieve a unique beat. If I just did the same old kick hat kick hat kick hat, it would get boring quick.

Youre right about music foundations.... old school trance stuff shaped alot sounds still heard today even heard in dubsteppy tunes of all things

Right ok, didn't seem on time

Right ok, didn't seem on time to my ear, that's why I said something.

I get what your saying. With the kick hat thing; In good trance artists they can get away with it because they can hypnotize you with the other melodic layers.

When I have time some day I will show you all what my 15 years of listening to all types of trance has done for me:)

let me ask you about control

let me ask you about control automation Jason, you use it an a lot in your tunes, knobs are swirling all over the place, and it sounds great it obviously something I need to start exploring, I basically don't use it at all

I know that you hit rec and play the track the adjust the knob where and how you want to change the sound, that i know or mark an area and set the start and end points of the change

but for example on the bassline in this track, all the knobs are turning all the time it seems, are you playing the track, adjusting the knob for the length of the song or whatever, then going back to the start, playing the track again, adjusting the next knob and so on

this seems hugely tedious, time consuming and probably frustrating,

or are you looping automation, selecting say 4 bars, playing them on a loop and then adjusting the as you wish and then that pattern is repeating

I can't figure out how to do that

cheers

I do the song start to end

I do the song start to end for each bassline knob.... cumbersome, but in the end you get good soundshaping and nice randomness.

Some items I will target specifically, by setting the sequencer marker near my target and record from there.

Perhaps Ill make a YT video and do it "live" show you how i pull it off.

You could loop bars and work

You could loop bars and work from there, you just gotta know how to overwite properly to get the right results. If you goof up however youre stuck with overwriting manually or clear all automation for that dial or slider

wow, dedication, and for the

wow, dedication, and for the bassline then, you are basically just randomly turning the knob back and forth and using the force to make sure it sounds good?

not exactly that.... there is

not exactly that.... there is a sort of mood altering I'm trying to achieve there, but also intentionally getting the randomness into it so as not to bore the listener into yawning thru the song :)
