Schector Demon + Boss ME25 + MAudio 2 track (forget model) + Win 7 pro. I like to keep my signal chain clean. I don't run through an amp when recording. When I'm laying down tracks for my band it's just necked guitar in to Sonar. Then we tweek using cabinet simulators.
Modern cab modelers are pretty amazing. Plus I have a reverb simulator that allows you to build a room and place a variety of mics where you want in the room. It's all about preference. A clean recording leaves options. You can't remove fx after the fact.
Alright, I need to throw this back out there so you all can keep adding to it. I would like to get another swipe at the file after you have added more to it though.
It seems I need to find out if Skarabee, will provide lead guitar.... or if he is to busy, move to plan B (its not solid, but, has something to do with CR singing... ).
Wasn't able to get someone to do a lead... If no one objects I can start to write a lead and we can tweak it as it goes along. Mr Pan, maybe we can work on this together? I'll start and we can take it from there.
So I did something crazy and I've asked Sabine Edelsbacher if she would be interested in doing the female vocals on this track. I sent her a copy of the progress so far, and explained that when we are done, I'd upload it to Google Play, iTunes, and Amazon MP3 as a free download. I have no idea if she'll go for it, but I have in the past carried on a short conversation via email with the band's founder, so maybe there's a small measure of hope.
If she declines, I will try other artists.
MFG, with respect to the lead guitar work, go for it, but let's try to save enough room for a vocalist for now.
I think we should just try to finish the project. Personally I would like to keep it instrumental, I was just kidding about you singing, specially if I don't agree with the lyrics. But, let us know I guess.
Some cool riffs, but seems way to too fast (or loud) right off the bat.
Leads should take you on a journey. Journeys have beginnings, stops along the way, and destinations.
Also, the entire track is now bouncing into the red a fair amount. I know we aren't near mastering yet, but if we keep an eye on it now, it's easier to polish later.
Regarding the snare used in pattern B3: I'd be inclined to copy that pattern, and make a few more, but change up the timbre of the snare in each pattern, and also vary the velocity. That will help it sound more realistic, and less mechanical.
I know it starts fast, I need to add drum fill. Leading notes, reason I posted it, I was hoping to get my ESP set up for this, for some real leads, the Nashville Tele, doesn't really have the sound needed... As far as the drums go, they are just there for now. Once most of the track is finalized, I'll adjust velocity and fills.
I also didn't want to hold the track up. Not sure if pan wants to take it, else you can take it sky.
Sorry for the lead, I think, we'll I know I rushed it. Been a bit distracted with other non caustic things. We can wipe it and start over again.
I also need to get a midi kb(a portable one) that I can use for some of this stuff. Makes you(me) more expressive. As some times I feel I rush my melodies.
This is what I've got so far. I figured CR said he needed to work on some things and I wanted to leave room for both MFG and Pan to add lead. Hopefully this will spur some ideas:)
Like the direction with the lead. It's a early critique, but the lead sounds like it's being played in a small studio, and the rest of the track sounds like it's on stage.
Thanks CR. I took a part that MFG created and moved it and made it an octave higher in parts. He also created a cool ending note and I just moved that to the end of some of the parts I created. Your right the guitar needs more reverb.
Here you go... Added some lead to the 3/4 part and dropped a ending note to the bass. I dont know what you think guys but I think it's a perfect unexpected ending. I also layered the kick to give it some depth and tamed the levels a bit, I might have over done it but I think it sound's nice. There still a lot of frequencies to take care of for this beast to work but it's coming together nicely, great work everyone :).
Brutalx I have no idea what you are talking about. A predetermined melody is how bands operate. If everyone made a part without hearing the other parts it would sound like a mess. Plus that is real guitar tracked by me. Caustic is a sequencing program, not a tracking DAW.
status update: still working on this.

Don't you lose ambiance... Big room sound?

Okay, I got it.
Here you go:) I want to hear what lead will do before I make anymore sound effects..don't know yet if anymore will be needed.

Great job!!!

Me using TTS & the Vocoder synth is as close as we'll ever get to that happening

Skarabee help! I don't want to hear CR sing.
I'm going to be doing some behind the scenes experimenting with other strings presets. My hi-strings sound too much like an organ to me.

Waow! Great work! Don't if I will have the time to add my track, and curious about B plan, hehe...Maybe a down pitched vocoder track could be fun!
OK...
Taking the file.
Added the new set of drums released by Mr J.
Will add the bell sample... Or a gong, still undecided.
Still working on getting a lead, should have an answer today (I hope).

Sounds good MFG:)

Let me know.
It will be based on Jason' guitar build.

Then lets finish the project how you wanna do it. Maybe if she goes for it we can have an instrumental version, and the vocal version.

Yeah I'm in. Maybe we could make two separate leads?
Vocals would be awesome.
Update... Some leads... Not Completely happy... But let's see.

I figured MFG and Pan65 were going to work on the lead. May I take a try at it too?

Who ever takes it just post it.
I want to have another go at my portion of the track sometime after Skynexia works on it. Just sayin.

No problem, you can take it now. If you like.
