New track - Elderglass

Caustic Song file (optional):

I began working on this track after connecting my MIDI keyboard to Caustic and playing around with the pitch wheel. I don't normally use the keyboard a great deal due to the effort in setting it all up, and hadn't realised pitchbend was supported, but it does allow for sounds you simply can't play live otherwise.

I built up a chord sequence using the FMSynth and decided I wanted some side-chained pulsing strings to go with it, regardless of whether the kick was active. I initially added a muted Beatbox for the sidechain, but realised I could free up an instrument slot by drawing in a volume automation curve for the strings instead, and copy/pasting that automation curve throughout the track. After some A/B-ing I was quite pleased with the effect, and especially the free instrument slot!

The bass sound is a reused preset I'd created previously, I used the Wav editor for a reversed snare effect, and I've layered up a few different sounds throughout, using up all available slots, to create the final track.

Any comments welcome!

Cheers EKT. Yeah a pitchbend

Cheers EKT. Yeah a pitchbend function would be a neat little addition to Caustic... not sure where it could be squeezed in though!

I love Modular patches that

I love Modular patches that are hooked up to the Mod Wheel on the rear panel - it's a shame that you can't record this as automation, sounds great when I use my Midi keyboard.

"Yeah a pitchbend function would be a neat little addition to Caustic... not sure where it could be squeezed in though!" - the two little arrows on the right in the main screen of each synth that you use to shift the visible keyboard up or down by octaves - how about functionality to flip this area between a pitch bend wheel and the current Octave up/down?

Or similarly - the polyphony and mute/solo section on the left. Maybe a long press on that section to flip it through an imaginary 180° and bring up an alternative section on the front panel with a Modwheel and Pitchbend wheel.

I haven't really used the

I haven't really used the MIDI keyboard as much as I should with Caustic, especially with the Modsynth, I'll have to try it out. I'm sure the last time I used the keyboard you couldn't map all the MIDI rotary knobs to each instrument control knob via MIDI learn mode - I was very impressed when I realised this is now possible! (Just need to take some time to get each instrument & controls nicely mapped to my keyboard some day)

Ah yes, the octave keys sound like a good idea. They almost look a bit like a pitch wheel already, maybe something like press & hold the centre and drag up or down for pitch bend could work, whilst single pressing remains as is. Although thinking about it, left handed operation would probably make a lot more sense(!) in which case yes, the polyphony & mute/solo would most likely be the best area for such a control

Cheers Pan65, and thanks very much Jason! - The track opens with FMSynth Chords, PCMSynth strings, another FMSynth arpeggio and finally a heavily delayed & reverbed Subsynth chord effect once every 4 bars - this was a late addition to the track and uses some pattern automation of volume, cutoff & resonance (I was quite pleased with this effect!)

I did spot your 'assignable

I did spot your 'assignable accelerometer' thread edgey, and I do like the idea - I think that could work quite nicely!

(Although my Nexus 7 has already had the accelerometer fail once and be repaired under warrantly. It's now out of warranty and the accelerometer has started periodically refusing to work again - a restart seems to sort it most of the time, but I've had to resort to a 'screen rotate' widget for switching to landscape/portrait when it fails!)

The melody was very catchy.

The melody was very catchy. And also the preset that you've thrown with this track.
