Caustic 2.1?

Hey Rej, just wondering if you have an update on the progress of 2.1 and if you could tell us what new features will be included and maybe a release date?

I'll never give a release

I'll never give a release date because I don't work full time and really don't control when I can get things done.

For example, I was hoping to get it done for the end of this month but fell ill two weeks ago, lost an entire week and I've only just started getting back in the groove.

Now what I hope to have is a beta 2.1 ready for (fingers crossed) end of next week for you guys to test out. I'm going to experiment with an semi-open beta this time in hopes of getting a bit more testing before it goes live.

As for features, I'll have to compile a proper list but the big items will be:

- Longer patterns: 1,2,4 or 8 measures as has been mentioned a few times

- Smaller note increments: support for up to 64th notes.

- Transpose + Shift control on patterns.

- Same pattern editor interface for all machines, which means:

- New Bassline machine with pattern editor removed and built-in effects and assignable LFO added instead. (screenshot somewhere in another thread)

- Improvements to pattern editor like marquee (drag box) selection + time-based selection for quicker copy-paste.

- Improvements to song sequencer: ability to insert and trim measures from songs, marquee and time select, plus a scroll bar to jump around your song quicker (no more switching to "drag/move/arrows" mode)

- Global song shuffle which can be overridden per machine or per-pattern.

- New parametric EQ insert effect

- MIDI controller support on Android (basic keyboard messages) for those with device support (Android 3.1+ with available USB mode)

- Portrait view for large tablets which shows several machines at once.

Plus a bunch of minor stuff like UI tweaks and engine optimizations (even managed to get the latency down a little, we'll see how well that one holds on different devices...)

That's all I can think of for now.... I might have skipped something too, it's all a blur. You may also know that I'm working on 3 new synths, but I've shelved those for now until 2.1 is out the door and stable. But that's when the real fun will start. This update is more just responding to user requests for a better workflow. Hopefully 2.2 will only take a few months to finish as I've been working on those features in parallel for a while now.

Anyway, I'll tell you more once I post the beta. There'll be instructions for those who wish to participate then. Stay tuned to the general questions forum for that.

Does that answer the question :-)

Thanks a lot for the update!

Thanks a lot for the update! 2.1 sounds awesome already, I cant wait! I didnt mean to put you on the spot as far as a date, but you gave a general time frame which is great. I was going to PM you but I figured others wouldnt mind an update as well. Thanks Rej!

Oh, no worries. Like I've

Oh, no worries. Like I've always said, I have no problems discussing what's coming, as long as you never take anything as a promise or ask for exact dates.

I suck at planning.
