I ordered mine from Japan on eBay, we won't get them down here until mid Jan. It's my first hardware noise maker and it's pretty fun to touch actual controls, but I think the programmer in me will always prefer software. But, I now have a MIDI controllable synth ... hmmm
I don't have a Volca Sample and I probably never will but I tried this out on my Mac and it works great so far. I'm looking forward to using this in the next version of Caustic. I have the other Volcas but since I discovered Caustic I never use them. They'll be on eBay after Christmas!
And in two years you will have moved the child out of its room into the garage to have a second spare room for the modular components that do not fit in the living room...
Of course your wife left you as the obsession became too much!
and economy in ruin with all the spending on modular synth components... and no time for programming...
This can be used as a standalone sampler! Nice one Rej. It will especially be helpful for those that want to make some field recordings as you can just open the app and hit record. I also like that you added effects support. Will this be the new editor (sans volca) in 3.2?
Edit: Oh dang! We have stereo! Woohooo! Rej your the man!
2nd edit: We have an animated spectrum!
This truly is the gift that keeps on giving! I have already put the effects to work mangling some basses. Too cool!
Yes, this is very good, even as a standalone sample editor, and stereo feeds. The IFX for stamping is awesome. I can now create just about any sound for any preset all on Android gear now. Goodbye Audacity.
Once again, Rej slams a homerun... Many thanks, sir.
Could you edit each sample's amplitude in the wav editor or was this added?
I love the 8bit generator, those sounds are just classic.
And folks, if you didn't get it, this is a sampler/recorder and editor with new functionality. So even if you don't have the Volca Sampler, you can still use this app as a sampler/editor and it has the 8bit generator included.
Yes mekanism, this app gives you an early look at 3.2's sample editor. Stereo support, effects, time ruler with snap (which can also be set to beats in Caustic) and better spectrum view.
The only thing I didn't bring over from 3.2 is the change pitch/time stuff which isn't done yet.
OMG Mr. Rej YOU DID IT AGAIN! XD
This is the best Christmas gift EVER!
I cant wait to put those poor mangled samples to work. :D
Thank You and Thank You Very Much! :)
Sorry Rej, I know you didnt want to say anything and spoil the surprise, but I'm sure there are other goodies you have cooked up for us. I will try and stop pestering you about the next update hehe!
Mike, you can edit/change just about anything in the Waveform editor.... but you know that already right? Amplitude? yes..... what am I missing, my brain is at about 2% functionality tonight, I'm tired.
I have tried this new app and there is something that I don't understand : I zoom in a waveform, if I tap in the ruler it brings the start marker, and I need to bring the end marker too, but can't figure how to do this....
@pquenin: to move the start/end cursors, you touch inside the top and bottom gray areas. It's always been like this. I'll probably extend the bottom area to include the ruler as I'm always tapping there inside of slightly above where I'm supposed to.
@mekanism: That's technically possible but not without a bit of work (automation right now is tied to song counters, I'd have to hook it up to playback time, no biggie but not 5 minutes work either). I'll focus on getting effects working for 3.2 first, this would be something for 3.3 if lots of people think it's a priority.
I have the other 3 in the volca sample and love them. I don't play them I just sample them because I like the sound of hardware more than software (now that I've used some), the quality is immediate, you never have to worry about the sound changing once it's bounced (for the most part) what you hear is what you get, it's funny I have all this software that I've paid a lot of money for and most of the time I can't stand to use it, I more enjoy using a tracker and and audio editor. BRAVO on the sample software for the Volca Rej.... now I don't have to buy an IPAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in the Volca is we could put 2 stereo tracks in one project ? sometimes i mastered song using other famous song as refference. still learning about this new stuff!
I would appreciate some more options for stereo channel processing. An easy solution would be to enhance the "mono to stereo" function by "M to L only" and "M to R only", such that you can merge two channels that have been processed individually in mono (with some overhead).
dang, I really like the new additions to the sampler, caustic just keeps getting better. I am, needless to say, excited for the next update. good stuff Rej! also, plus one on automations in the sampler, I don't imagine that I would use it often, but I would definitely use it.
I believe this a start of more hardware pairing up with mobile to work together for music projects. It's good to see Rej get his foot in the door to kick this off.
Just to say it one more time, this is really great Rej! Thank you so much for this totally awesome tool! Also, I just LOVE the implication of you owning a device that has only MIDI *IN*... :)
I really like this app. Coupled with Audioshare I made some nice drum samples...will have to try it out on Android, Seems like it's going to render Tape Machine worthless.
On the Effects Tab, I think the "Apply" button is too close to the IFX block, I found myself accidently applying an effect when I was trying to tweak and shape it first....
If this Editor is going into Caustic 3.2, I will be very happy, because you can do just about anything to a sample (in Stereo as well).
I've already been testing out tweaking my PocketKit Platinum samples and doing some mock-up changes to my samples.
Works 100% so far for me as a stand-alone unit (you can use it without the VS unit).
I would like to be able to see the spectrum on the same page as the effects so we can see what we are doing to the audio without having to skip around. Maybe add the spectrum button underneath the apply button in effects?
I have been a fan since Caustic 2 and although have moved to hardware I still noodle about on Caustic from time to time. The app itself is great, my only issue is mainly with the lag which is an android problem. I had been swithering about whether to get the Volca Sample (I have the other three Volcas) because of the iOS only editor so when I heard about the Caustic editor on Android I ordered one almost straight away and I have not been disappointed - it's a terrific app!
Only slight issue I have had is that I have run out of memory on the unit despite being at between 78 and 86% on the Editor. i.e. 78% loaded on the machine and I get an error message when trying to added another sample taking it up to 86%. There may be a straightforward explanation but I can't for now work it out.
It works really well though and I have a couple of suggestions if you ever work on updating it:
Would it be possible to save the snapshot of the sample list for future use? I see the .txt file in the CEVS folder which is useful but saving this for quick recall would be really handy.
Amending pitch would be really useful (essential? although I note that you were still working on that for Caustic 3.2)
I see from another forum that the Sample can receive Sequencer data, could this be added somehow?
If you add a sample to a sample slot but change your mind prior to sync there is currently no way to remove it from the list.
I appreciate that the editor in its current form is free but am sure that the Volca community would even support a paid app with added functionality if you could devote time to development. The Facebook page is really active if you want to gauge interest.
Found a minor bug in the editor : when you select a tab (File, Edit, Process, Tools, Effects) this one is highlighted and a menu appears at the left of the screen. To remove this menu you tap again on the selected tab. This doesn't work with the new Effects tab.
Since this is OnTopic with this side-app, I will add a Feature Request for the Editor (as it eventually migrates over to Caustic later)
With the Effects section to stamp on the Waveform, I recommend an "repeat effect" option of sorts, that can call up the recently used InsertEffect AND its settings....
An example use for this: creating a special drum kit.... say you want to make a super trashed kit and stamp a certain Distortion Effect for each sample, to maintain consistency for the entire drum kit that you want to build.
Or lets say you record your voice for several vocal "bites" to integrate into your song, and you want to add a 10 KhZ Boost (using the HighShelf MultiFilter Insert Effect) you would want that HighShelf to be consistent with all of your vocal samples that you are loading into PCM or BB.
I've been testing PocketKit Platinum alot this week and using this Editor for minor tweaks here and there to balance things out, and having a "effect recall" would be very useful.
So a "repeat or recall effect" button could easily sit below the "apply" button, but I still think it needs a little bit more space below the InsertEffect Block
After the minor bug I have described above, there is another thing I don't understand : at the right of the time ruler there is a "lock" icon, but can't figure out what it does...
Hey, the Korg Volca Sampler is on my Santa's list...
Nice one, Rej!

Slick as always.
"It was taken from my Caustic 3.2 working branch, so it even has a few more functions than what's in Caustic 3.1!"
So this is the editor we will see in 3.2! And stereo support for pcmsynth? The suspense is killing me!

Nah, those were mentioned before on the forum. I'm always cooking up something though ... I'm hoping to have something worth testing pretty soon.
And Mike, the amplitude adjuster has always been there, the flu virus has fried your BRAIN.
Oh man, pitch control too. Cant wait!
