I am making something but I dont understand if this challenge is about to make a song using only one instrument. A sample is an instrument so.............?
Never dawn your level, always try to get HIGHER!!!!!!!
Didn't want to get out of bed and find my other tablet. So, I made this one real quick. Two repeated whole notes, modular, and the mixing board reverb turned to halfway.
It doesn't matter how you make or obtain it, but one sample, one synth machine.. but you can use Slave Modulars for Aux and Effects to enhance your soumd..... go!
I see what you mean...... you mean taking one sample, and making an array of sounds from that sample to make your track? Ok sure, why not? Go for it EKT
I sampled a sound made, by me, with the Cassini oscillator app for ipad and ran it through a modular sidechain. The latter of which is wired by me and in the presets section of the forum.
I'm assuming that you're referring to the phasers? One each are on both the pcm & modular. Additionaly, there's a chorus on the pcm and a flanger on the modular. The master controls have a distortion (fold back) and an auto wah. Of which the latter goes from 0-100 wetness and odor protection in 120 bars. ;)
Mixing board delay & reverb are, also, used. I was going to toss in a vocoder melody...but, decided to keep it simple.
Here's a copy of the sample I used. I made it, a few months before discovering Caustic, with the Cassini oscillator for iPad. I really do like that one better than the Arturia iMini Moog app...but, get lost for hours. Forgot exactly, other than towards the end, where the sample is. There's so much depth to it that it changes every couple of octaves. I've used it on two SoundCloud tracks. (Times of Future Past & Housebroken) I'll delete the link in a day or two. But, feel free to use it however you like. And, happy new year.
Thought I'd have a go a this. One sample, one machine, a fair few FX. Compared to Pan's effort above this is very much on the opposite side of the sophistication spectrum. Fun to do though .
If I'm understanding correctly, I can use one sample and use more than one pcm with the original sample and use the modular, vocoder and effects to manipulate it? Or is it just one pcm I can use?
Sorry I haven't been able to make something of my own...I've been a little bit busy with other projects and also did not understand it at first...lol but now that I understand how it works,L!feUp TAKES THE CHALLENGE!!;D
I figured I give this a try. I used a PCMSynth with a single sample of a ride cymbal (from the drum kit here at my studio) and put it through lots of effects and a bunch of Modular Synths.
and another example...
That's an interesting challenge... :)
What's that sample... I'm in!

This could be fun, I'll play :)
I wonder that too. You mean one sample in one PCM preset which can be used on all 14 slots?

I have a couple of those, already!

from my first track, the PCM preset is "Hypnagogia" from C3 Essentials 1 content pack
second track, the PCM preset is "WaterPad 2" from C3 Essentials 4 content pack
I took one sample from each preset, and then mapped it accross the entire keyboard in a new preset to make each track as heard above...
A single sample does not an instrument make..... the PCM presets I make have at least 4 samples per octave.... some have more...
mapping a single sample accross the entire keyboard to make an instrument does not work well for many reasons.... except for crazy stunts like this
Are we limited to using one machine? Also, can we use the volca sampler for some resampling?

Ah... Ok... I thought of creating different sounds, drums and percussion out of a pregiven sample in multiple machines... I'm out again ;)

I was thinking like you EKT.
Very good I like it.

I'll try to make one using only 808 kicks.
and stuff.
I might give this a go then. You can do a lot with a kick sample.
Coolbeans.... I'm all ears
1 sample + No idea what will happen = Is this a talent show!? Cool then.
I cleared eleven minutes on SoundCloud, uploaded this track, and it was "processing" for two hours. So, I deleted and started over. Same message. So, here's a download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nb73xg7u39hl803/SynapseByAndyZamoron.wav?dl=0

Nice stuff here!
I'm trying to write something a bit less abstract, however I'm also using an easy sample (It's close to a sawtooth)

I have been slowly working on this as well, but I have been using the volca editor for most of it, making everything from a kick drum sample.
Since this wasn't a single sample challenge. I'll have to resign. Forfeit. :/
Yeah EKT, that was the bomb man...
