What I did today...

Should have done this earlier in its life, but......

Gas Water Heater needed a good cleaning....  ONLY DO THIS IF YOU KNOW HOW TO OPERATE GAS APPLIANCES SAFELY!!!

Gas main shutoff, purge lines, and then pull out the burner -- oh man, this is quite dirty (explains recent slow heat recovery)

Cleaned burner and pilot and ignitor.... then vacuumed interior of sealed combustion chamber and air intake vent and filter...

Reinstalled all components, checked for gas leaks (VERY IMPORTANT BEFORE LIGHTING THE PILOT) and now have a good flame burn (compared to the flaling bright orange flame before...

Should look like this:  ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.     I'm a happy camper, and the ladies in my house will not complain about running out of hot water. cool
