Feel free to tweak anything in the DuoKit that you wish..... this phase is testing and taking many many notes of what I need to do..... I want proper crash and ride "placement", as well as solid matching EQ character, phase, Transient Attack control in my "virtual" environment, when this thing goes full stereo (trust me the stereo version sounds really sweet) but Caustic's Master Reverb backs this kit up well for the time being.
If life eases up on me a bit more, I'll pop in and contribute something in here....
The only thing is that I like to hear the drummer (as right handed drummers) from the audience perspective. Well most my music is written from the audience perspective. So I like the snare a bit panned to the right and the hi hat panned a bit after the snare and the ride panned left. This is just my preference and in no way saying that it has to be done like this. I will just go with it anyways, always have. I don't like to spend too much time tweaking. Like Andrew Zimmerman from bizarre foods says... If it looks good taste it(or eat it)...
So if it sounds good, use it (no need to be technical or picky).
I can understand from the drummer's perspective, there is slight (and I stress slight) percieved "panning" of various items as played, but the surrounding capture of the OH's give more of a placement of tone more than straight panning and throw in the room or immediate stage environment as well, IMHO.
From the audience perspective, you're hearing the drums from a specified point of space, except perhaps what a FOH system is feeding your ears.
What I've done with Platinum is kind of merge both of these perspectives, including what you're describing, to give a decent stereo spaciousness beyond what Caustic's reverb may or may not realistically do; as well as environmental character, that when you hear it in stereo, I think really fattens up the drumline for future music projects when 3.2 hits the scene.... I've heard and even used some of the commercially available drum samplepacks from yesteryears (ahh they were not as good as the ones available today, although nowadays, are dreadfully expensive, ouch!) and I've taken a somewhat different approach, using some personal theory of mine.... I guess we'll see what users' reaction are when they get their hands on it.
Meanwhile, feel free to use anything I've sent you for this project.... I hope that things around here settle down enough soon to get my music brain back online, I've been stuck in a creative rut for a while
Thanks Jason... I don't think caustic troll suits you.
Hey its been a tough month, all the shoveling has messed my back, to the point when I get home all I want to do is lay down. Going to have to start going to the Chiro again. So I apologize for any delays with this project. I have ideas, lots of them, but only been able to do the ones that don't require me to sit.
Sorry to hear about your back. I hope it gets better soon. Take your time, I check this forum often. Having a hurting back is nothing to play around with, I remember when my father went through that, except his was so bad he had to have multiple surgeries. Take care of yourself.
I hope to never need surgery, my sister went for surgery and ended up with RSD(type of dystrophy) at the age of 30. Now it's worse than before. Thanks!
I have another sample maybe I should post... I did... See if it's something you would like to take a crack at. Maybe it could be the B side of X3. Let me know...
That was my point, take care of your back. I've got old injuries from gymnastics, didn't realize how crooked my neck and lower back was until I went to chiropractor. Use to run cross country and stopped because of swollen shins and feet due to my lower back. Neck and back are in better shape, but I will eventually have to have surgery on both my feet.
I took a listen, I like it. Did you want me to use the subsynth you put in there, or the one from before?
Yeah for sure, be nice to your back, takes time for things like that to heal.... I've messed up my neck a year and a half ago, and I had to spend the follwing year very carefully to get it to heal and quit hurting.... my kid sister (med student specializing in physical injury therapy type thing) helped me out with some things and special stretches that really helped
Sorry, I've been busy. I'll work on the last one you posted later tonight. I'm thinking maybe we should email CR on this most recent one you posted and see what he will add and then I'll work on the organ more after I hear what he does. What do you think about that?
Alright crew, I'd like to get a reaction from you all on this crazy organ thing I put together. I think it works with the track. If you all do as well, I'll go back to creating more riffs and sprinkling them in all the appropriate places to enhance the other instruments.
Cool sound CR!. Is SG in? Or do you want me to add on a piano part and add more subsynth. I think CRs organ setup sounds better than the subsynth. Also the other file I was working on a subsynth, organ, modular combonation. Is that going to be combined with this file or is it a separate track?
All is good, there was one slot left we can do a piano, just a thought. Also thought about a sax, thinking of a non synth instrument to add. I like your organ sky.
SG popped in but not sure if he wants to join the fun.
XRK is the "B" side song... You can work on that one as well if you like or to make it simpler, I can create a new thread for the beside. This was just an idea.
X3 is the main file. So CR you can carry your work on the file you already started.
CR is working his organ talk box. So let's wait til he is done.
I'll wait to see if SG shows up again.
Also started a X4, need to get the ideas down before they are forgotten. You can pop over when I post the file. I'm trying to get DX to do some of his work over in X4. Soon as I have the structure, trying to make it slow but epic. Smooth, shaken not stirred... :-)
Does anyone have an existing vision (if you can call it that with music...maybe a 'hearing'?) about what they would like to see happen between pattern locations 46 - 86? Is that a placeholder for a future guitar solo?
I feel like I shouldn't touch that area....yet. However, if you want me to drop some funky talk-box organ-like melodies in there, I can certainly do that as well.
Originally I wanted to be a synth / keyboard driven song. Guitar was just going to be rhythm. I put some in there just for the effect and possibility. I had more a doors mind for this song. So go ahead and touch up anything you want. Take out the lead guitars and go at it. I can always add/make some parts longer. We can also go down just to the bass and slow quite drum and the talk box, kinda like Peter Frampton, instead of the guitar, your talk box. It can be added just before the song goes from 68 to 44. Make that middle section longer. If you want to add a 2, 5 10 minute talk box solo, feel free. We can work with it.
Alright, here's what I've got for this iteration. I would like the chance to go through it again after others have contributed some more to it, so that I can drop in a few more organ embellishments.
Sorry guys, I have not forgotten you. Since it's a bit warmer and the snow has melted a bit. Had to do some projects on the house, that have kept me from sitting down record some guitar parts. I appreciate your patience.
I'm giving her all she's got. The Dilithium crystals are breaking up, she is going to blow.
I have had too many other things get in the way. Since spring is here after a horrible winter, started to fix the yard and the the garden going, that led for me to start woodworking, so I started turning the garage in a workshop. Then I have over 300 seedlings to take care off... Plus my regular job changed location an it's been hectic. So I do sincerely apologize, I'm just waiting to get everything caught up. So I can get back into caustic. So my 9 to 5 job, then my home jobs that run into the night makes me feel my age. Not to even mention that the Fish loves to fish... And golf...
Yep, that's fine man. I just wanted to 'jiggle the handle' and see if the flow would kick in again. I've been going through my own stuff in life too, and have been struggling the last few weeks to complete just one of my own tracks, so I know where your coming from.
I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red X3
From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime
Wind In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge...
I have no idea, this is a song I'm not really happy about. A bit frustrated about it, but I guess that's how you grow (so I hope). Maybe the synth cleaned up a bit. Subtle Synth lead in the beginning? Jam session feel with a daft punk feel?

No that was me messing around, didn't know if a synth would work. That's my favorite preset I created. It has a jump/subdivision/take on me sound.
You add your own.

say what?
Okay, here is a "draft" of how I see the flow of the song (does not mean it should stay that way).
First time I try doing stuff like this (in public atleast)... Some of the parts I have to re-record as I am not completely pleased with them.
Caustic Song file (optional):
Sorry, I've been busy. I'll work on the last one you posted later tonight. I'm thinking maybe we should email CR on this most recent one you posted and see what he will add and then I'll work on the organ more after I hear what he does. What do you think about that?
No problem... No hurry, it's not like I didn't take a while.
I'll msg him.
Leave a spot for a vocoder... I think it might help the over all sound of the vocals.
Update on vocoder... Better?
Caustic Song file (optional):
Yes, it's better. Bit louder in the left ear. The timing of the guitar sounds a bit off beat with the organ at the beginning, but I really like it.
It completely is. I wanted to have some sounds. In there for the idea. Like I said I have to redo a lot. But I can do as someone else takes it.
Did somebody call?

Wow....this is slick, funk-ay & sleazy sounding.
Didn't take many measures to know what instrument to use for this pooch!
How many instrument slots may I use?
Google Play! | Facebook | YouTube!
I used 3 slots.
1 empty slot remains.

It's good... Should it have a piano interlude?
DL now
Sounds good... Sometimes it's gets muddy, but I like what your doing. Kinda like an organ talk box.
Exactly.
We can clean it later on. I'll keep at it.

This one? I'm still working on it and hopefully will have it finished tomorrow.

Did I work on the wrong file?

Confused.... =/

I'm going to pause until it's clear which file I need to work on. :-)

Okay... Sorry this was all my fault.

CR is working his organ talk box. So let's wait til he is done.
I'll wait to see if SG shows up again.

Kirk: Where they went.
McCoy: Suppose they went *nowhere*?
Kirk: Then this will be your big chance to get away from it all.

I was kinda hoping it would've had more edge like the previous rockband track, but after we got further into this one, it started growing on me.
It sounds 'good' as it is, but it could sound a lot better if we and mystery elements x, y and z. Make it sound less 'thin'.

Yeah, I know what you mean... Maybe Jason has some tips for us.
