Caustic Song file (optional):
Add one part inspiration from Ian and Scarabee's recent sharing with the pulse width, add another part reading about distortion and the use of amp cabinetry to tame the distortion, and one more part on sub bass sounds from Sound on Sound and I came up with this modular that makes some pretty interesting sounds that could be used in dubstep/brostep.
Before playing with the knobs, first try the different sounds across the keyboard. C5 is pretty wild.
I've been wanting to play with modulated sounds using the envelopes instead of lfo's for some time, but after reading Sound on Sound, it was finally time. I think next I'll take Scarabee's recent idea and use something like the 8-bit instead of the envelopes. No time left today though.
Enjoy! :)
Update: I updated the file. Right before I sent the first one I found an issue with the compressor in the master section. Fixing it made the filters in the second modular unnecessary.
Cool stuff! What was the sound on sound article that you read?
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul10/articles/dubstep.htm
It didn't cover a lot about the sub bass, but it got the gears in my head turning. It did tell a lot about percussion, and making that swing feel. I need to go back and look at that some more, because I can tell that is where I am SEVERELY lacking.
Thanks, I love the Sound on sound stuff.
have you checked out the Moogfoundation videos? some cool stuff...

Yeah ... go for it. I put it up to share it. For me, I figured I would at least get some sounds out of it I could export and pop into a PCM. I'm not done playing with it either. I have other sounds I have heard, and more ideas in my head to find a way to get out of Caustic, and it's seeming more and more possible now.
I have the link saved in my browser, and will check it out soon when I have time to pay good attention. :)
Cool. :)
This produces some very cool sounds indeed! Turning all the 'release' knobs on the DADSR envelopes up by a couple of notches produces a nice 'fluttering' sound upon releasing the note, which has kept me occupied for a good few minutes now! Thanks for sharing this

Playing with the attack does some neat things too. Some of the sounds ramp up before they drop. I'm still working with it too.
