Help: instrument to replace voice

I've been very bored at my own creations, I think it's about time I put lyrics in them.

Easier said than done. I can't seem to find the room for them, because I can't envision a human voice in my tracks.

So I had this idea: if I had some instrument that sounded a little like human voice, but not too much, I would probably find room for it more easily. I would treat like a regular synth or whatever, then later in the process replace it with my own voice. I am a tenor, by the way.

I know it sounds like an unusual idea, but I think it's going to work... as soon as I find that instrument.

Now what instrument would that be?

Piano

Maybe a lead... a stringed instrument? Bass?

Something with sustain. Ah a piano is basically good enough but boring, but it has bass sustenance.

Look for either Vocality or

Look for either Vocality or Text-To-Speech online tools that'll let you download a .wav file.

Make sure you are efficient with how you package your vocal samples for use.  Either load up a PCM Synth with a lot of smaller vocal clips, or create longer samples and use the Vocoder, but then the trick is getting the timings right if you play one sample that is supposed to cover a couple verses.

And if I'm totally of base with the kind of info you are looking for, then my appologies

I liked to use a cello sound

I liked to use a cello sound for that purpose. There's a good cello preset that comes stock in the FM Synth. PH Cello I think is the name. I seem to recall hearing somewhere as well that the cello is one of the traditional instruments most reminiscent of the human voice, but I could be pulling that out of my ass for all I know. In any case, cello is what works for me. :)
