Caustic Song file (optional):
Here's something I was working on recently. I wanted to try using only ModSynths, even for the percussion parts.
Instead of creating separate note patterns for each track, I just used one ModSynth as a Master and set it up to send its note patterns to a bunch of other slave ModSynths. Each of those has its own Arpeggiator, with its own sequences, patterns and automation. Playing a single chord in the Master ModSynth creates a bunch of intertwining parts that all fit melodically with the notes being played in the Master ModSynth. And the drum patterns are triggered by the Master ModSynth too. I have separate ModSynths for kick, snare, hi-hat and percussion (plus a bass part and a few synth lines).
Very cool, I'm going to peek at the SongFile to see how you made some of the drum sounds..... it is a delicate challenge to recreate drums electronically, but for your electronic atmosphere in this piece, you made them sound smooth and fit well in this tune.
Well done sir.
Thanks Jason. Yeah, the drum sounds are definitely of the retro rhythm box variety. Reminds me a little bit of the Mattel Synsonics drum machine. Remember that thing?
I think so..... Alot of innovation came in the late 70's and early 80's.... I recently read a SoundOnSound article about creating acoustic drum synthesis electronically, and the audio theory behind it is very complex. I don't think it is really possible to do in Caustic right now, due to the immense amount of variables and other elements and components needed to pull it off....
Thank you for sharing this jfMIDI. I will learn a lot from this. More power to you.
Hermoso trabajo!
Awesome, thanks.
@Jason I'm not sure that you will read this, but I want to express my opinion on the topic adding more information ^^
I don't know if you read the article completely (I believe it was called "Synth secrets", if we are talking about the same one), but there is a youtuber/ musician who read it and made drumsets on a "ZynAddSubFx" plugin. "Unfa" he explains a lot of core points on drum synthesis. I'm not entirely sure he can synthesize a complete acoustic drum, but what he does, sounds really great.
About the plugin... I don't think it matters (that much) on what you use... What I would like to say is that "If you know the theory, you can do it on a lot of synthesizers."
I haven't read the article "Synth Secrets" completely (I just restarted it recently, because of "Unfa") so I may not know the exact result you want to achieve with drum synthesis, but I would advice learning from the guy, because he explains everything really nicely ^^
