Lol that's bad ass! I was hoping someone would do a d&b style remix! Awesome! Great job ! I'm not sure about quality conversions on soundcloud. I don't think it degrades by much. Although, if your uploading wave files I think soundcloud encodes it to more of an mp3 quality. I could be completely wrong though. I always upload high quality mp3's and there doesn't seem to be much of loss in quality.
I was under the impression that SC streamed your file generally in the format that you send it...... I have always uploaded at a minimum 256kbps mp3 on my Caustic tracks, and they sound quite decent on SC..... also for download capability, users would download essentially the file that was uploaded.
If I uploaded a 24bit WAV for a four minute tune, that's pushing 100mb, and streaming that or DL'ing that would not make mobile users happy...
I think I had ear fatigue by the time I uploaded it and the low end isnt where I thought it was which explains why I thought it sounded kind of crappy . This track was kind of tricky to get the mix down. Div, you threw a lot of sounds into that mix, but it was a fun challenge. After working on this I realize how much easier it is to get a track completed in a short amount of time if you already have the sounds designed. I wind up doing some sound design mid arrangement and its not a good idea.
Lol I was listening to it with flat response headphones so I couldn't hear the low end if I tried lol. How are you mixing your tracks? Do you do everything in house in Caustic? I learned a new trick for mixing low end. Well not new, but new to me. It's actually embarrassingly simple. I'm a bass chimp lol. I'm pretty minimal with ego due to the fact that we will always have something new to learn no matter how advanced we are. I digress. The sub channel, only roll off the point in the sound the clicks. Once you get to where the click sounds more like a mild kick, you then take a high shelf and gently envelope the excess frequencies. This keeps the subs power in tact, gives you the desired head room, and effectively cuts unwanted high end. Also with the multi filter, use band isolate as a notch filter and notch out the frequency that your kick is peaking. It's anywhere from 100-200 Hz. With Caustic you'll just have to take an educated guess. I don't know if you've already been applying this technique yet but in the case that you weren't familiar with it, I wanted to make this knowledge available to you. Still working on the bass design. Shouldn't be too much longer. I will definitely let you know when I'm finished with it and about to upload.
Yeah usually mix everything in Caustic and use different systems to audition the track before I uplaod it. I have a decent monitoring setup in my studio but I didnt have the time to test it there. I did the final mix in my fairly flat DT-770 headphones and it sounded pretty good in them when I uploaded, but like I said fatigue set it by then. I re-listened to the track today and the low end sounds ok in my car which has a sub but not great.
Thanks for the tip I will try that one out on my next track. Yeah there are way too many big ego's on other forums I frequent and I tend to not really post much there and half of the threads I read turn into a bigger dick contest by page 2. Musicians can be the most self centered asshats! This I why I love this forum!
No worries on the bass patches, whenever you get the time its cool. Thanks for the help man!
Cool no problem! Okay dude this is going to drive me nuts, what region of San Diego are you in? South, North, East? That's our home man! We're trying so hard to move back down that way. Eight years ago it was so vastly different from everywhere else. During the fires everyone gathered at "The Turd" (if you're from North County than you know the place I'm speaking of. If not than I mean the Jumping Turtle in San Marcos.) and put on a straight no bull shit metal fest! It was awesome. Aside from all our homes being burned to a crisp..... To be honest, the connection and brotherhood that everyone had, everyone pretty much forgot that the fire was ravaging the suburbs of San Marcos. Or maybe it was all the beer.... That could make you forget pending doom lol.
Ah, just as I post my first dnb tune and am really pleased with myself, sure enough, something comes along to show me I still got much to learn. This is awesome.
Love the Knife Party esque start
Hey fellow San Diegan! We live in South East San Diego. South of the 94 and east of the 805, its near Encanto. We live in the "hood" haha but our neighborhood is nice and quiet. Yeah those fires were bad, I flew over san diego county in a Cessna a few days after they put them out and it looked like a huge spaceship touched down in Julian and ripped a big runway all the way to the coast. It looked like something from a movie. Hopefully you didnt lose your home.
Since you are from North County you might have heard of Warner Springs which is up in the mountains. That is where I went to high school, as my parents own the small airport up there.
Where in LA are you now? My wife is from Culver City.
It really helps when all of the sound design is already done. I didnt change much from the original honestly, just sped it up and moved the kick and snare. The vocals were a little tricky as the timing was off but I moved the start points around to make it work. This was super fun to work on though!
Nice! I've been in Santee once or twice for playing shows, but that's it for east county. Yep that's pretty much the hood out that way lol! Which is probably why we didn't go there much. A couple of guys in a band we knew lives out there and said that east county was where meth was manufactured so we stayed far away. Is Warner springs close to Ramona or is it closer to fallbrook? Those are the only two places in north county that have mountains aside from Palomar. We live in Anaheim now. I say l.a because it's known to more people than orange county. I spent my childhood in south central though. Then Compton for a couple years then finally had enough and moved to SD. I thought what I was breathing air in LA lol. When I moved to SD it felt like my lungs were on fire from all the actual air I was breathing. I moved there in October so it was cold as hell compared to what I was used to. So I'm sure that brought the burn on a bit more.
Warner is between Ramona and Temecula. You can see palomar mtn from warner springs. We dont live in east county, we are only 10min from downtown. Anaheim, even closer than LA and a little nicer.
Oh okay. Well that's a hell of a lot better then east county lol. There's so many bad ass places to go close to downtown San Diego. So what are you guys doing out that way? Are you in the navy/marines or working on one of the bases in civilian sector? It's seems like military is like 80% of the population of that part of south county, is why i ask.
No not military, but I work in aerospace. Been living in San Diego for about 16 years now. Moved down here out of high school to pursue a machining career, then wound up working as a mechanic in aerospace building and testing small jet engines.
Very cool! Holy shit life up too? There's so many of us. Let's have a war! Hopefully you know the reference lol. That's definitely a commendable trade though. I have a really close friend that works in aerospace and he makes a really decent living. Although I guess it depends on your field of expertise, Hey I don't mean to thread jack anymore than I already have but I haven't fully committed to the idea yet. You and LifeUp seem like you'd be perfect for the task. I started a D&B track in Caustic this morning. It has some great elements to it so far. Yet, I am working on two professional projects a Tove Lo remix and involved in some sound design projects. I simply can't give my Caustic track the attention it deserves. Would you guys be interested in collaborating on it? It has some great D&B potential and I would hate to push it to the back burner.
I'm going to post a new thread for the collaboration. I thought about it and I think who ever wants to jump this should. I'm uploading it now. Sorry for being so late with it. I was abnormally slammed with shit to take care of for a Sunday.
