Chantra: Part One (wip)

Caustic Song file (optional):

We've just had the Alchemy Festival at Southbank Centre, London, celebrating the art and culture of southern Asia, and I've been inspired to do a piece with elements of of Indian music in it. I tried many times before and just gave up, but I decided to stick with it this time. I still wanna add some wind instruments and more random percussion hits to try and emulate a sort of Asian jam session. It's a very complex style of music to make electronically, but I got this far so will keep trying. The soundcloud link is just the first part. The ogg file also has a sneak peek at what direction part two is gonna take, my usual progressive trance with an ethnic tinge to it. Also got part three lined up for an ethnic ambient trip. Kind of morning, noon and night versions. Thanks to flither for providing me with a great melody for part two.
I've included the caustic file, so if anyone wants to pick up a virtual dhoka or a shaker and join the jam, add it and repost the file lol
As always, comments, good or bad and suggestions very welcome. Hope you enjoy

Hey Alexei, this was a great start for you. I've noticed that you put a lot of efforts in your tracks especially at vocals. And I think that mastering was sick. Great work. By the way, I'm an Asian person. :)

Wow! Thats twice as appreciated from an Asian dude. I really wanted it to sound authentic, but it's a lot more difficult than I realised. Still not done on part one. A few other bits to add, then it gets stripped back down for part two. I may be some time hehe

Cheers man. Taking a break from part one cos it's bloody hard making stuff sound authentic and spontaneous. Working on part two, coming along nicely

This is sounding great. The tracks I've tried with ethnic / world instrument samples always sound a bit confused. But this sounds really joined up and cohesive. Nice work.

Cheers rich. I know that you like to make more natural sounding music so I appreciate that. It is ultimately going to be a trance tune, but the transition is gonna have more impact the more the firsf part sounds authentic.
I took hours just trying to get the bends on the sitar to sound real.

Cheers guys. I think the panning is a long strong delay. I panned some of the percussion but for the most part it's straight centre. But yeah, I've always been fascinated with stereo sound. I used to love recording in surround sound on cubase.

Well, I dont know about

Well, I dont know about professional lol. I haven't used cubase for a long time. Last iteration I used was Cubase SX but life changes and you lose things. But really, the thing I miss most with Cubase was the wav manipulation possibilities. The fact that, if a vocal sample was slightly going out of sync, you could just select a little snippet and stretch or shrink it without affecting the rest of the sample, or the fact that you could zoom in on little parts and just eq that one little bit to bring it in line with the rest. I know there are workarounds on caustic, but it was a lot easier on cubase. Never really liked fruity loops or reason. Cubase just seemed to be a million miles acoustic rest. I used to use the Albino synth a lot and wish there was similar on caustic, but then remember, "dude, you're making this shit on you're f**king phone!!!!!)

I'm always in awe when I hear

I'm always in awe when I hear a track that's technically proficient, as that's my weakest attribute, having never used any kind of music software before hitting on caustic, and never used any synth before that. But for me it's always mainly about the song, and i'm really loving where this is going, great sound, and it travels along magically, very trippy feeling, and will wait to hear the further parts, power to your elbow

Cheers buddy. Interesting to

Cheers buddy. Interesting to hear that caustic popped your synth cherry cos your stuff sound a lot more there than a lot of stuff. Ideally I'd like to have it as one long piece of three movements, as it were, that blend perfectly together and then also have the option to listen to part one, two and three individually too. I fear that I may have to do three completely different tracks though, due to slot constraints. Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback. It's always good, especially when you're facing The Wall and thinking of turning away from it

I remember a guy that can't

I remember a guy that can't believe I'm just using Caustic on my remix track. By the way, I did not use any computer softwares on music making. But the first application is from my symbian phone (Nokia). I had a fun times there but when I broke that phone, I switch to android and yes, I found Caustic. As of now, this app makes me happy and satisfied. I'm just unsatisfied on my music. :)

N.V.I.V, if ever you were

N.V.I.V, if ever you were satisfied with your own music, there wouldn't be a reason to do better. I'm never satisfied with my tunes and every single one has pencil marks all over it in my head, where I intend to revisit it and alter bits. Better to be a perfectionists than to be perfect. Something to strive for. And by the way, your stuff is fantastic. And I still cant believe this is possible on a low end Galaxy

...and once again sorry for abandoning your project, I just started to discover song editor mode and went little deeper in it ;) I'm still retarded in this matterwink. And I'm not able to work on 2 projects at the same time, unfortunately ;)

Now I'm trying to resolve sound clipping problems in PCM angry

Totally ok dude. Song editor

Totally ok dude. Song editor is a fantastic tool to get away a little from the loop style and can really make a difference. On your remix, I added a couple of low stings to the chords during the breakdown and it made such a difference. Works extremely well with vocals that are impossible to do in patterns.
How do you mean clipping dude?

I mean the popping sounds

I mean the popping sounds when strings from soundfonts are playing, probably easy to fix. Anyway I'm too lazy to do anything with it today, as it's bloody hot in my town right now cool

Haha you love your emoticons

Haha you love your emoticons dude. Sounds to me without hearing it like you need to work with the start and end points of the loop section. Because it's a sample, if the loop point isnt set very well you will hear the click when the loop section resets and if you're playing a chord you'll get it three times all playing at different speeds. Bloody hot here in Blighty too!!! We've had a crap summer so far lol,
